ALSO Youth was created in 1992 by individuals who were alarmed at the statistics documenting high rates of suicide among gay and lesbian teens. In cooperation with other local organizations such as Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG); Planned Parenthood; and YMCA Youth and Family Services, volunteers were recruited to conduct a support group for Sarasota area youth. Upon rea

lizing that more comprehensive services were needed throughout the community, ALSO’s founders initiated contact with school officials and implemented a training program for educators. The types of services and numbers of youth and community members served have steadily increased. Today, ALSO Youth is a non-profit organization that provides peer support services, educational programs, advocacy, and referrals for LGBTQ+ youth ages 10 to 24, their families and friends, and the community, thereby enhancing self-esteem, promoting healthy dialogue, and increasing awareness of sexual minority youth issues.

We're proud to be a beneficiary of the Elton John Impact Awards—a powerful new platform celebrating the icons, legends and trailblazers shaping a more inclusive world in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

Because of this support and visibility from the Elton John Impact Awards, Procter & Gamble and The Looking Out Foundation, we are able to advance our critical work at ALSO Youth!

This year's honorees—including Jonathan Bailey, Laverne Cox, Melissa Etheridge, Billie Jean King, Orville Peck and Chappell Roan—have driven change, shaped culture and made a positive impact on society.

Tune in June 1 on iHeartRadio or wherever you get your podcasts to hear powerful stories of impact from this incredible program.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we’ve got a full calendar! ⭐️🌈

LGBTQ+ youth face higher rates of stress, isolation, and anxiety, making accessible, affirming support more important than ever. That’s why we offer free support spaces and therapy designed with our community in mind.

This month, we’re also partnering with Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation to bring the , a free online course that builds skills to better support one another, to our youth, staff, and volunteers.

We hope to see you at an event this month. 💚

Because of you, this community showed up in a powerful way during the Giving Challenge 💚

Together, we raised $28,564, which will be matched by The Patterson Foundation, doubling the impact of every gift.

Every donation, every share, every moment of support helped make a meaningful difference for LGBTQ+ youth.

Because of you, young people in our community have access to affirming mental health care, consistent programming, and a space where they can feel safe, supported, and truly be themselves.

This is what it looks like when a community shows up.

Thank you for choosing to 💚

ALSO Youth was founded out of deep concern for LGBTQ+ youth su***de rates. Thirty years later, the data tells us that these young people are still at significantly greater risk than their cisgender and straight peers.

This is exactly why ALSO Youth exists.

Jill Payne, a youth who accessed our therapy services, shared that ALSO Youth saved their life during a time when they didn’t even feel human. Stories like Jill’s are why this work matters so deeply.

Your support helps remove barriers to care and ensures LGBTQ+ youth can continue to access the counseling, community, and support they deserve.

There’s only a few hours left to contribute to the Giving Challenge!
