Don't let anyone accuse you of Islamophobia! A handful of words are shaping an entire political narrative.
https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/?p=1508184&preview=true Genocide. Intifada. Jihad. But are they being used honestly? My new article examines how these words are being framed, misused, and politicized and why fear of Islamist extremism is not Islamophobia.

The same progressive principles that require us to defend Muslims from discrimination should require us to defend Jews from antisemitism, Israelis from terrorism and Palestinian Arabs from extremists who sacrifice their lives for political and religious goals.

We can recognize Palestinian suffering without rewriting October 7.

We can criticize Israel without erasing Jewish history.
We can defend Muslim civil rights without sanitizing Islamist extremism.
Sometimes people are repeating words they were given.
Our responsibility is to ask what those words mean, where they came from, what history they carry and what they sound like to the person standing on the other side of the crowd.
Words matter. History matters. Definitions matter. And facts have to matter too.See less
