Carbon Monoxide Incident Response on U.S. Highway 281

Chief 2, Rescue 13, Engine 8, Medic 13 and Medic 22 responded to a reported carbon monoxide leak in the 14000 block of U.S. Highway 281.

Upon arrival, crews located three individuals experiencing possible carbon monoxide exposure. Palo Pinto County ESD No. 1 HazMat technicians evaluated the building and worked to identify and mitigate the source of the leak.

Two of the three patients were transported by ambulance to Palo Pinto General Hospital for further evaluation.

The structure was rendered safe and ventilated before crews cleared the scene. Business operations were closed for the remainder of the day.

Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas that can become dangerous quickly. Residents and businesses are encouraged to have working CO detectors and ensure fuel-burning appliances are properly maintained.
