Did you know: The 579th Engineer Battalion descended from the 184th Infantry Regiment and was organized in the California National Guard on May 6, 1929?

This connection is symbolized in the Blue color on the Battalion Crest.

Red and White are the colors for the Corps of Engineers.

The Shovel symbolizes the engineer mission.
The bayonet symbolizes the combat mission.

The Pacific Wright Whale is for the campaign honors awarded for service in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

The 579th Engineer Battalion held a ceremony for their Soldiers who have earned the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Military Operations in Hostile Conditions (SSI-MOHC). These soldiers deployed to missions and places in the CENTCOM AOR where the SSI-MOHC is authorized by the Department of the Army.

The history of the right shoulder patch dates back to the end of World War II, when the wear of the unit patch on the right shoulder was approved to denote service in combat with that unit. The patch not only signifies serving with a specific unit during hostile conditions, but also symbolizes an eternal connection to the past, visible statement of shared commitment, value, pride and hardship.

At least 41 Army National Guard soldiers were wounded in the unmanned aerial system attack last Sunday on the U.S. logistics support facility known as Tower 22 in northeast Jordan, the National Guard Bureau confirmed in a press release today.

"We join our senior leaders in strongly condemning Sunday’s attack on our forces," said retired Maj. Gen. Francis M. McGinn, the NGAUS president. "The 41 Army National Guardsmen wounded should remind all Americans of the important role the National Guard plays every day around the world in defending our nation."

Thank you to everyone that made it to the home of the California Army National Guards Sappers for CSM Brandon Morey 4th Annual Memorial Ruck/Hike this past weekend.

As a group of 55 participants; 7 miles in 2 hours on an amazing day, traveling up to Sapper Hill and back.

Those that were capable, packed the Sapper standard of 35lbs and extended the hike beyond in honor of CSM Morey.

When Morey was the 1SG of the 235th Engineer Company, our formation sounded off with "Sappers Lead the Way!" At every formation!

That tradition continues...

The first Taji 100 was held at former Camp Taji, in Al Taji, Iraq, in February of 2010. Captain Carole DiPardo, 211th Military Police Battalion, created the friendly competition for her fellow troops in Camp Taji with a simple goal: Run 100 miles during the month of February.
The mission of Taji 100 is to encourage health and fitness by promoting an active lifestyle.
