“Lithium Nevada is telling Paiute & Shoshone people they are trespassing in their own land. Peez’uh (Ni**le Rock / Sentinel Butte) is an ancient sacred site of the Paiute & Shoshone; they have inviolable rights to hold ceremony here. Paiute & Shoshone people have suffered two massacres here; this is hallowed ground. We need Pres. Biden & Interior Secretary Haaland to protect these lands by placing them on the National Registry of Historic Places. Pres. Obama attempted to remove these lands from potential mining on behalf of the endangered sage grouse. For all the reasons we are standing here. Peeheemuhuh is ready to receive you. ”

Funding opportunities:

CILA Members, your tribal clients may be eligible for state funding to pay for attorneys in state child welfare proceedings! Deadlines to access this funding are fast approaching!

We invite you to join a webinar on March 24 at 12pm Pacific to
learn more about how federally recognized tribes in California can
access the following funds. Register at: https://caltribalfamilies-org.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUlcuutrzMrH9TNxiQMaYP5prQe-Q92Dwlv

1) Tribal Dependency Representation Program (Letter of Interest
due 4/7/23) – this program was established specifically for
tribes to access funding for attorneys in child welfare proceedings
governed by the Indian Child Welfare Act. $15,000 per tribe in
base funding is available. California is the first state in the country
making public funds available to tribes for legal representation in
such cases because data shows that when tribes are involved
early in the case, families achieve better outcomes.

2) Tribally Approved Homes Compensation Program
(Memorandum of Understanding due 5/1/23) – this
funding was established to support recruitment and retention
activities for tribally approved foster homes. $75,000 per tribe is
available in base funding.

3) Flexible Family Supports and Home-Based Foster Care (Letter
of Interest due 7/1/23)

4) Excellence in Family Finding, Engagement and Support
Program (Letter of Interest due by 6/30/25)

5) Live Scan Machines and Fingerprinting Costs (Application
packet required)

6) System of Care (Notification of Interest due 5/1/23)

The funding is available through the California Department of
Social Services (CDSS). The following organizations are coming
together to share information and ensure as many tribes as
possible are able to benefit from the funding: CDSS Office of
Tribal Affairs, California Indian Legal Services, California Indian Law Association, and California Tribal Families Coalition.
Specific terms apply to access the funding. Please rely only on
CDSS approved documents and guidance.
