September is National Preparedness Month! 📣

This year's national theme is "Americans Stand Ready" — a reminder that when individuals take small steps now, entire communities become more resilient later.

Here are the basics that you as a Santa Monica resident can do today: ✅ Know your risk — what disasters are common where you live ✅ Make a family emergency plan ✅ Build (or refresh) your emergency supply kit ✅ Get involved — take a first-aid/preparedness class or connect with your local emergency management team ✅ Sign up for emergency alerts at www.santamonica.gov/alerts

Santa Monica Police Chief Darrick Jacob shares an update on SMPD’s enhanced public safety presence in the Downtown area this week and through the weekend.

SMPD is deploying additional patrol resources around the Santa Monica Pier, Third Street Promenade and Ocean Avenue, building on its existing presence and commitment to providing a safe, welcoming environment for residents, businesses and visitors.

Community members are also invited to join SMPD officers for Coffee with a Cop on Thursday, Aug. 27, from noon to 2 p.m. at the SMPD Downtown Substation, 395 Santa Monica Place. Stop by, ask questions and connect with the officers serving our community.

The safety of our community remains a top priority.

Following two serious incidents near the Santa Monica Pier and in Palisades Park this weekend, the Santa Monica Police Department has deployed additional patrol resources to complement its existing presence in the area. Officers will continue conducting proactive patrols, engaging with residents, businesses and visitors, and coordinating public safety resources throughout the downtown area.

SMPD officers are highly trained to assess rapidly evolving situations, protect the public, and make critical decisions based on the circumstances they encounter. The additional patrols reflect SMPD’s continued commitment to a visible, responsive presence and the safety of everyone who lives in, works in and visits Santa Monica.
