From Colorado campuses to New Mexico classrooms, students spent three days exploring what their future could look like during the GEAR UP New Mexico Spring College Bus Tour (Northern Route)!

Students visited Adams State University, Fort Lewis College, and San Juan College, where they learned more about academic programs, campus life, and the many opportunities available after high school.

Experiences like these help students see new possibilities, ask important questions, and start building confidence in their next steps. 🎓

Big futures start with big moments!

On April 29, Capital High School seniors celebrated their next chapter during the College & Career Signing Day. From universities and trade schools to career pathways and military commitments, students proudly shared where they’re headed after graduation.

During National Apprenticeship Week, GEAR UP New Mexico students got a firsthand look at exciting career pathways during the Spring Workforce Development Apprenticeship Bus Tour! 🚍

Throughout the three-day experience, students explored apprenticeship and workforce opportunities across New Mexico with visits to the Associated Builders & Contractors New Mexico Chapter, Southwest Line Constructors Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program, APRENDE Early Childhood Teacher Apprenticeship and Training Program at Santa Fe Community College (NM), and CNM Central New Mexico Community College Ingenuity Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship Programs.

Students also toured CNM Rio Rancho, Santa Fe Community College, Albuquerque Open Space Division + Rocky Mountain Youth Corps, and UNM Hospital to learn more about careers, training programs, and life after high school.

A special thank you to the New Mexico Dept. of Workforce Solutions State Apprenticeship Office for partnering with GEAR UP New Mexico during this experience and presenting to students during the CNM Rio Rancho visit.

The GEAR UP Student Leadership Conference brought together over 100 students, GEAR UP staff members, and teachers from across New Mexico for an inspiring, hands-on experience focused on leadership, growth, and future opportunities 🌟

Facilitated by SEEDS Training, the conference immersed students in experiential learning activities where they engaged in group problem-solving and pushed beyond their comfort zones, literally breaking through barriers by smashing boards with their hands or feet 💥 These powerful moments reinforced lessons in resilience, confidence, and the importance of challenging personal limitations.

“This conference helped me see that leadership isn’t about being the loudest—it’s about helping others and believing in yourself,” one student shared. Another added, “I feel more confident about my future and what I can accomplish.” 💬

A highlight of the event was hearing from Stephanie Rodriguez, Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Higher Education Department, who shared her journey from working on education policy at the federal and state levels to leading statewide efforts that expand access and opportunity for New Mexico students. Her story, rooted in public service, advocacy, and a deep commitment to equity, encouraged students to pursue their goals and make an impact in their own communities 🎓

The conference also recognized outstanding leadership among GEAR UP staff. Dr. Corine Ripberger presented Rachel Zintgraff with the Pillar of Support Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership in advancing high-quality services for GEAR UP students and families, her strong commitment to supporting fellow GEAR UP staff, and her consistent willingness to go above and beyond 👏
