🐝 It's ! Pollinators—including bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, moths, bats, and other species—play a vital role in supporting healthy ecosystems and food systems. In fact, many of the fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds we enjoy depend on pollinators.

By planting native and climate-appropriate species, reducing pesticide use, and creating pollinator-friendly habitat, we can help support these important partners in our landscapes and communities. Check out the Waterwise Garden section of our website: sustainabilitysantafe.org/savewatersantafe

Today is World Day to Combat Desertification & Drought ☀️ Living in the high desert means we know water is precious. Drought isn’t just something we read about — it shapes our landscapes, our gardens, and our communities. Water-wise landscapes, healthy soils, and thoughtful conservation practices help Santa Fe remain resilient today and for future generations.

🐝 Did you know some bees are actually picky eaters? While many bees visit a variety of flowers, some specialist bees depend on specific plant species for pollen. These partnerships have developed over long periods of evolution and are one reason native plants play such an important role in healthy ecosystems. So planting natives plants isn't just about creating landscapes with climate-appropriate species, it's supporting the web of life that surrounds us.

🌎 Challenge for the week: pick one simple swap that reduces waste. Choose a reusable water bottle instead of single use plastic bottled water. Use a reusable shopping bag. Repair something instead of replacing it. Borrow instead of buying. Over time, seemingly small actions can add up to meaningful change across a community.

♻️ Sometimes the most sustainable item is the one that never gets purchased in the first place. Santa Fe community groups like Buy Nothing help neighbors share, borrow, gift, and reuse everyday items — keeping useful materials out of the landfill while building stronger community connections. So before buying new, consider asking: Can I borrow it? Can I find it secondhand? Can I share it?
