We must tell our story....the individual servicemember's story.
----
“What we need to focus on is the sense of soldiers and service. While other services’ hardware may be more photogenic, the American G.I. is “iconic,” said the incoming AUSA president, Gen. (ret.) Carter Ham. “I think when people talk about, someone engaging in selfless service on behalf of the nation, I think that resonates more than stuff, if you will, particular platforms or equipment.”

ARLINGTON: The Army has to tell its story better to get the money it needs, the new Army Secretary said this morning, making messaging one of his main missions. “What I would have to do first of all is… tell the Army story,” Eric Fanning said, “and the reason to do that is to make sure that the Army...

For the first time in 40 years, the U.S. Army is making changes to a century-old piece of hardware, dog tags, the identification implements that hang around each soldier's neck.

Unit: 44th Army Band

What did you do to prepare for the Best Warrior Competition?
Just PT, 3-4 days a week, running, push-ups, sit-ups. For the ruck march, I did a couple road marches around Johnson Gym. I wish I would’ve changed up the terrain for the ruck.

How do think you performed during the competition?
I could’ve done better.

Do you have any hobbies?
I love going to the movies, concerts, dining out, and reading.

What would you recommend for future competitors?
Study your current events and field manuals.

Sgt. 1st Class Dana Deschiney
Unit: N.M. Medical Detachment

What did you do to prepare for the Best Warrior Competition?
I did a road march to get my pace count, but it didn’t really matter since we marched in sand. I studied the heck out of the Army field guide.

How do think you performed during the competition?
I think I did ok. There were areas where I was good at and areas where I wasn’t so good.

Do you have any hobbies?
I like to make art. I also like to go fishing and camping.

What would you recommend for future competitors?
There’s no way to fully prepare for what we did that weekend. You need to be proficient with your weapons and Soldier skills before you come in.
