Smoke is visible in the Santa Fe Ski Basin area from a new fire in the Santa Fe National Forest. Crews are on scene. Per the US Forest Service there is no threat to people or property at this time and no evacuations are in effect. Please do not call 9-1-1 to report this smoke. Do call 9-1-1 if you see flames or fire elsewhere.

Pojoaque Alert-

Another bear was sighted in the Pojoaque area near Camino Trujillo early this morning. This may be the same bear that has been observed in recent sightings.

Please be alert and cautious as bears and other animals may be making their way way down from the mountains in search for food.

If you see any bears or other dangerous wildlife, please contact the Pojoaque Police Department immediately at 505-455-2295.

Good afternoon-

Please see the attached flyer for the Camino Del Rincon School Bus Pick & Drop Off update.

Beginning September 10, 2026, the pick up location for buses 1, 10, and 18 will move to the fenced area behind the Cities of Gold Casino & Hotel.

Additionally, beginning the same day for the same buses, drop off will be at the Pueblo of Pojoaque Wellness Center.

Attached is the current construction flyer for the bus stop on Camino Del Rincon. The work shown on this flyer is scheduled to take place from August 31 through September 9. This will be presented to the Pojoaque Valley School Board this afternoon.

***ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Smithco’s second crew will begin staging equipment tomorrow, August 27, 2026, on Camino del Rincon and Old Pueblito Road in preparation for pipeline installation, scheduled to begin August 31, 2026.

⚠️ This work will require a one-lane closure. Please use caution in the area and allow additional travel time.

Additionally, Smithco’s third crew is scheduled to begin work near the Cities of Gold area, heading northeast on Camino del Rincon, beginning September 8, 2026.

The Pojoaque Tribal Police Department would like to take a moment to honor Mr. Randy Lupe from the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation who lost his life after suffering a medical emergency while battling the Frijoles Fire.

Our sincerest condolences go out to Mr. Lupe's family and loved ones in this time of loss.

Thank you Randy Lupe for your sacrifice and the Pueblo of Pojoaque thanks you for your service.

REST IN PEACE: A firefighter from the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation died after a medical emergency while fighting a wildfire in New Mexico, officials announced.

Verizon services have now been restored.

All-

Verizon phones in the Santa Fe and Rio Arriba Counties are out of service. This includes personnel working at the Frijoles Fire. If phones are connected to wi-fi, phones may still call out via wi-fi calling, if enabled.

Emergency Services are aware of the issue and are working with Verizon to get services restored.

The Pojoaque Police Department still has active communications.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring reliable and official sources of information, including the U.S. Forest Service, Santa Fe County Fire, and trusted local news outlets for the most current information.

As a reminder to the public, the operation of drones near or around the fire area is strictly prohibited. Yesterday, crews were once again grounded due to the operation of drones in the area.
