If you’ve been Downtown lately, you probably have noticed quite a few new signs on buildings bringing fresh energy to Pacific Ave. and the adjoining side streets. 💃
As of August 2026, 12 new businesses have opened Downtown, with another 12 in the process of opening soon. Total business openings are on track to meet, and likely surpass, last year’s annual total of 14 new businesses in Downtown. Foot traffic for unique visitors to the Downtown market (they do not live or work in the Downtown) and visits (repeat visitors to the Downtown) are both trending up, +2.2% and +1.8%, respectfully (source: PlacerAI).
On Walnut Avenue alone, there are three new stores: Hand It Down : Kid to Kid Resale, a children’s clothing retail shop (opened in May 2026), Lizi Barba a neighborhood Lizi Barba specialty food shop (opening soon), and Relic & Roots, a new home Relic & Rootsing and specialty shop, which just celebrated its ribbon cutting on August 21st. Abbott Square recently welcomed two new food options with Luna's Boriken Bites (locaLuna's Boriken Bitesuilding) featuring Puerto Rican comfort food and India Gourmet with authentIndia Gourmetvors with fresh ingredients.
