Life for our students is so different than it used to be and their mental health is critical for their success as learners. Excited to be at Cabrillo Middle today for the opening of the Cabrillo Calming Center, also known as the Cougar Den. It is a calming space, beautifully designed with science backing it up so kids who need a moment or two have a comfy space to take a break and regroup. I enjoyed hanging out with the weighted turtle.

Visited Pomeroy's amazing garden day today. There were master gardeners, beekeepers, dogs for kids to read to, a pie baking competition, and more. I had a great conversation with Santa Clara High students who are working to improve districtwide recycling. Plus, Pomeroy has an amazing garden, pictured here. I had never eaten red chard, which you can see in the picture, until we grew it at home. These kids are getting the opportunity to try all sorts of fresh veggies!

Today was a fun day filled with 6 promotions and graduations! It is wonderful to share the excitement with the students and their families. I got.to participate in the 5th grade promotion at Pomeroy Elementary, 8th grade promotions at Cabrillo and Peterson Middle Schools and Callejon K-8, then shook about a 1000 hands at Santa Clara High and Wilcox. Congratulations to all!

It is the start of graduation week in SCUSD! This morning, we were at Mission Early College High School celebrating the graduates, including many who were also receiving their AA degree from Mission. This is such an amazing program and wonderful partnership with Mission College!

Thanks for the invitation, Leanna Goldenberg, principal at Montague Elementary. I got to visit the 5th grade Living Wax Museum, where students have researched a famous person, written a report and a presentation board, and then stand still until a person stops by and pushes a "button" to get them to speak. It was a very cute idea and the students did a great job. Congrats to Mr.. Aoto and Ms.. LaRocca! While I was there, Mr. Orozco, 3rd grade teacher, had the students show me the mini-books that Mr. Erickson 's Buchser middle schools students had made and shared, since both grades were studying adaptations in science. Finally, I checked out the new adaptive playground that opened earlier this year, thanks to grant funding from the County. All the kids loved the different slides, teeter-totter, ramps, and more built for all levels of students.

It is Read Across America Day today and it was wonderful to get in to a couple of classrooms this morning and read to kids. I brought a couple of my favorites, Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss and Wild About Books by Judy Sierra. Plus I got to sample green eggs this.morning. Delicious! Loved being back in classrooms! I was followed by Captain Carter from the Santa Clara Fire Department. Thanks to Ms. Kim and Mrs. Chappell at Don Callejon for welcoming me.
