North Patrol deputies continue proactive e-bike enforcement throughout Rossmoor and North County to keep our communities safe.

Recently, deputies contacted a juvenile riding an e-bike with his helmet strapped to the back of the bike instead of being worn. The rider was cited and educated on the importance of helmet use and e-bike safety.

Helmets are one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injuries in a crash, but they only work when they’re on your head and properly secured. Parents and guardians should ensure young riders understand the rules of the road and the importance of wearing safety equipment every time they ride.

North Patrol deputies will continue enforcement and education efforts to promote safe riding habits and help prevent avoidable injuries throughout Rossmoor and North County.

Ride smart. Ride safe. Wear your helmet.

North Operations Deputies observed a male riding an electric motorcycle in unincorporated Tustin with no license plates displayed. Upon investigation, deputies determined the rider did not possess a valid driver’s license, the motorcycle was not registered, and there was no proof of insurance.

The rider was cited for the violations, and the motorcycle was impounded.

Electric motorcycles operated on public roadways must meet registration, licensing, and insurance requirements under California law. Our deputies will continue proactive enforcement in unincorporated Tustin to improve roadway safety and ensure compliance with vehicle laws.

E-Bike Enforcement at Villa Park High School

Deputies observed several juveniles riding e-bikes recklessly on the baseball fields at Villa Park High School. The juveniles were detained for trespassing on a closed campus and investigated for possible vandalism to the school’s grass fields.

During the investigation, deputies discovered one juvenile was operating an illegal electric motorcycle equipped with a 4,000-watt motor capable of speeds up to 50 mph. The juvenile was cited for operating a motorcycle without a valid driver’s license, registration, or insurance. The electric motorcycle was impounded for 30 days.

A parent was contacted and advised of the violations. Parents and guardians should understand that some high-powered electric motorcycles are not legal for use on public roads or school property without proper licensing, registration, and insurance. They may also be held responsible for damages caused by their children.

Deputies will continue proactive enforcement efforts to address unsafe riding behavior and protect our schools, parks, and neighborhoods.

We understand California’s e-bike classifications can be confusing. To help residents better understand the differences between Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 e-bikes, a North Operations deputy created this simple flow chart.
Knowing how your e-bike is classified can help ensure you’re riding safely, legally, and responsibly. Take a look and see where your e-bike fits!
Remember: Any electric bike without pedals, with a motor over 750 watts, or capable of exceeding California e-bike speed limits is generally not considered a California e-bike.

A couple of smooth criminals hit the wrong note.

Last Friday, members of the North Directed Enforcement Team (DET) arrested an infamous social media couple after they allegedly found a purse at a local restaurant and chose to keep it rather than turn it in. What may have seemed like a lucky find quickly led to criminal charges and an arrest.

Finding lost property does not make it yours. If you find a purse, wallet, phone, or other valuable item:

• Turn it in to the business or property owner immediately. • If the owner cannot be located, contact local law enforcement. •Do not use, remove, or keep any contents. • Keeping or using lost property can lead to theft-related charges

Our deputies remain committed to protecting our community and holding individuals accountable when they choose dishonesty over doing the right thing.

North Operations deputies continue to make an impact through proactive enforcement.

On Friday, May 29, at approximately 10:00 p.m., North SET deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the City of Santa Ana. During the investigation, deputies located approximately 250 grams of suspected methamphetamine along with evidence consistent with narcotics sales.

Efforts like these help remove dangerous drugs from our communities and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to keeping Orange County neighborhoods safe.

Deputies recently contacted two juveniles riding e-bikes in Villa Park who were found in violation for unsecure helmets. While the e-bikes were legal, safety laws still apply and helmets must be properly worn and buckled at all times. Both juveniles were cited, parents were contacted and educated, and the kids walked away with a better understanding of the rules.

As e-bikes continue to grow in popularity, we encourage parents and guardians to review the laws and safety requirements with their children before they hit the streets. Knowing the rules helps keep everyone safe.

Deputies responded to a call for service regarding a subject walking in the roadway in Villa Park. During the investigation, the subject was detained after littering a pack of ci******es directly in front of deputies and was found to have an outstanding felony warrant for drug possession. The subject, who had been released from jail just two weeks prior, was arrested and booked back into custody.

Proactive enforcement efforts in Villa Park continue to help keep our communities safe and address repeat offenders.

A North Operations deputy is assigned to the Orange County Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership (GRIP), a program dedicated to creating positive opportunities for youth and helping prevent gang involvement.

Kids teamed up with local law enforcement personnel who escorted them through Angel Stadium, watched batting practice, and participated in a Q&A session with Trent Rush and Jo Adell from the Los Angeles Angels. Programs like GRIP help guide youth away from gang involvement by building mentorships, strengthening community connections, and encouraging success in school and life.

GRIP operates in 62 schools countywide and continues to make a positive impact through partnerships between law enforcement, schools, probation, community organizations, and local businesses.
