Chispa Chispa is a brave organizing political home for young Latinxs in Orange County. Chispa was created as a response to the results of the 2016 election results.

Despite the growth of the Latinx population, the country elected a President who built his campaign on attacks against communities of color, and who quickly moved to implement racist policies that seek to criminalize and police people of color. Locally, Orange County remains as conservative as ever, and Latinxs remain marginalized due to a lack of political clout. Even in Santa Ana, which maintain

s a Latinx City Council, Latinxs find themselves being pushed out by gentrification, a lack of affordable housing, and a growing preference by the city to divest from investments in youth programming in exchange for investments in failed tough on crime policies and cuts to police accountability. Chispa was born in order to build a political home for young Latinxs to grow the people power necessary to hold elected officials accountable and responsive to the needs of working class Latinxs in the county.

Santa Ana doesn’t need a surveillance state.

The City Council’s surveillance majority has pushed Flock cameras, police drones, and speed cameras into our neighborhoods, all while our immigrant community is living under the very real threat of increased federal immigration enforcement.

And while City Hall warns of a looming financial cliff, somehow there’s always money for more surveillance. Millions for cameras and policing, but resident-led commissions are on the chopping block? Give us a break.

It gets worse: reporting by Ben Camacho (Ben Camacho) has raised serious concerns about Flock ALPR data making its way to federal agencies.

Our community deserves investments that actually make us safer, youth programs, violence prevention, infrastructure, housing, and community-based solutions.

Santa Ana residents are not your suspects.

This surveillance majority needs to reevaluate its priorities.

Across Orange County, our members are organizing to protect and empower their communities.

In response to ICE raids and increased immigration enforcement, Chispa members are organizing Know Your Rights Walks, bringing neighbors together to share critical information and resources with families in their own communities.

Here are some pictures from our most recent KYR walk this weekend!

We’re proud this work is member-led and community-powered, with walks organized in Anaheim, Fullerton, and Santa Ana. 🔥

When our communities are under attack, we organize and protect each other. 💛

🚨 CALL TO ACTION 🚨

SB 1105, the Protect California Rights Act, is headed to the Assembly Floor for a final vote, and we need YOU!

Call Assemblymembers Valencia and Quirk-Silva’s offices today and urge them to vote YES on SB 1105.

California should not bend the knee to Donald Trump, we deserve to know that our state and local officials have our backs.

We are proud to announce that Chispa members have voted to endorse Hieu Nguyen for Garden Grove City Council, District 4! 🎉

Hieu is an immigrant, social worker, longtime Garden Grove resident, and community advocate whose lived experience has shaped his commitment to creating a city where every family can thrive. Hieu understands firsthand the importance of investing in people and ensuring everyone has access to the resources they need.

“Hieu Nguyen is exactly the kind of community-centered leader we need in local government. He leads with humility, listens to the people most impacted, and understands that issues like affordable housing, parks, public services, and immigrant protections are about dignity and quality of life. Hieu has shown that he is ready to govern alongside the community—not above it,” said Bulmaro Vicente, Political Director.

Chispa is supporting Hieu because of his strong commitment to affordability, expanding access to parks and public resources, protecting community programs, and building meaningful partnerships with residents and grassroots organizations.

We’re excited to stand with Hieu as he works to bring a new generation of community-rooted leadership to Garden Grove. 💜

We are proud to announce that Chispa members have voted to endorse Sandra De Anda for Santa Ana City Council, Ward 4! 🎉

Sandra is a longtime community advocate, Chispa member, and Director of Policy and Legal strategy of the Orange County Rapid Response Network. From growing up in Santa Ana to dedicating her career to protecting immigrant families, Sandra has consistently shown what it means to fight alongside our community.

“Sandra De Anda brings the lived experience, policy knowledge, and courage we need on the Santa Ana City Council. She has spent years on the frontlines defending immigrant families and challenging systems that harm our communities. Sandra doesn’t just talk about co-governance—she has built her work around it, and we know she will bring that same commitment to City Hall,” said Bulmaro Vicente, Political Director.

Sandra has a bold vision for Santa Ana: strengthening sanctuary protections, expanding immigrant legal defense resources, investing in community services, and ensuring residents have a meaningful voice in the decisions that impact their lives.

As a member of our Chispa familia, Sandra has helped build the grassroots power that makes our work possible. We are proud to stand with her as she takes the next step in bringing that community-centered leadership to the Santa Ana City Council. 💜
