Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Waves of Remembrance Ceremony and visited the Field of Heroes at Community Park. Your presence helped make this a meaningful time of reflection and remembrance.

A special thank you to Denise Dillon of the Sanibel Recreation Department, City council and City staff, our first responders, community volunteers, and everyone who supported this important event.

The Field of Heroes will remain on display at Community Park throughout the weekend. Please take a moment to visit, reflect, and remember.

Never forget.

🚧We’re making upgrades to improve the technology at our toll plazas! While the work is underway, you may notice some lane closures and changes to the usual traffic pattern.

Here’s the good news: When a lane is temporarily closed, other lanes that are typically inactive may be opened to help keep traffic moving.

As you travel through the toll plaza:
- Follow all posted signs and directions.
- Slow down and use extra caution in the work zone.
- Be prepared for changing lane patterns.
- Allow a little extra time for your trip.

These temporary changes are part of an upgrade that will provide improved toll plaza technology for the future. We appreciate your patience while we work to make these improvements!

There are moments when words are not enough.

Across Sanibel Community Park, 2,977 American flags stand in solemn tribute to the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Behind every flag is a name. A family. A story. A life that mattered.

This Field of Heroes is more than a memorial. It is a powerful reminder of the enormous loss our nation endured, the courage shown in the hours and days that followed, and the responsibility we share to keep these stories alive for generations who were not yet born when September 11 changed our country forever.

We invite you to walk the field at Sanibel Community Park. Read the names. Remember the lives represented here. And take a moment to reflect on the promise our nation made 25 years ago:

We will never forget.

Please join the City of Sanibel on Friday, September 11 at 8:15 a.m. at the Sanibel Community House for our Waves of Remembrance – Morning of Reflection, as our community comes together to honor those we lost, recognize those who answered the call, and remember all whose lives were forever changed by September 11, 2001.

25 years later, their names still matter. Their stories still matter. And we still remember.
