This past weekend, members of the Sanibel Police Department, Sanibel Fire Rescue District, and City of Sanibel employees traveled to New York City to participate in the Tunnel to Towers Climb.

Together, we climbed the steps of One World Trade Center to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice. It was a humbling and meaningful experience that reminded us of the day that the world stood still.

From sunrise cleanups to storm response, road repairs to keeping our island beautiful, the dedicated team at the City of Sanibel Public Works Department helps keep our community moving every single day. Their hard work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is seen everywhere, in our parks, pathways, beaches, and neighborhoods.

During Public Works Appreciation Week, we thank these hardworking individuals for their commitment to protecting and preserving the island we all love.

Whether it’s preparing before a storm, restoring after one, or handling the everyday tasks that make Sanibel special, their service helps keep our community strong, safe, and connected.

Our collective Sanibel hats are off in honor of you this week and every day.
