Please join us in honoring the men and women who risk their lives every day to keep Sanger safe. This is National Police Week. It is celebrated during the week of May 15th and falls in under President Kennedy’s decree to honor the men and women who risk their lives every day in the line of duty. It is also a time for police officers to honor their fallen colleagues, make sure those surviving them are supported, as well as to remember their commitment to keeping people safe. National Police Week is all about honor, gratitude, remembrance, servitude, and peer support.

We would like to thank B&O Towing for stopping by today and bringing us 12 cases of water and 2 trays of desserts. We appreciate your support.

Today the Sanger Police Department had the privilege and pleasure of participating in Career Day at Butterfield Elementary School. Officer Tim Morton had the honor of spending time with some of Sanger’s bright young minds and their educators. Officer Morton came away impressed by both stating:

“It was a pleasure sharing about my career in law enforcement, giving students a hands-on look at a Sanger patrol unit, and demonstrating the siren and emergency lights. Most importantly, I appreciated the opportunity to spend time answering the students’ questions. Many of them were impressively thoughtful, though the most frequently asked question of the day—by far—was, ‘Have you ever Tased anyone?’ The students were well-behaved, and the teachers and staff made the entire experience both welcoming and enjoyable. I’m grateful for the opportunity and would be happy to participate again in the future.”

Hopefully, the seeds planted by events like these will help our students grow into the leaders we need in generations to come. Thank you Butterfield Elementary School for inviting us and we look forward to the next event.

ATTENTION SANGER!

Online and phone scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated. They target individuals through emails, text messages, social media, and fake websites, as well as over the phone. Fraudsters often pose as trusted organizations, government agencies, or even friends and family to gain access to your personal information or trick you into giving them money. There has been an increase in reported cases of fraud scams targeting our citizens over the past several weeks. The following are some tips to help avoid being scammed.

Stay alert and protect yourself:
• Do not share personal information such as passwords, Social Security numbers, or banking details with unknown sources.
• Verify before you trust. If you receive a suspicious message, contact the organization directly using official contact information. Do not click links in emails or solicitations. If you feel it may be a legitimate organization, use a search engine and find the correct link to go to their website.
• Watch for red flags like urgent requests, threats, or deals that seem too good to be true.
• Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication whenever possible.
• Keep your devices updated with the latest security software.
• Never trust anyone claiming to be law enforcement or law enforcement support associations that solicit money from you.
• If you feel you have been scammed, report it immediately to your local law enforcement agency. The people that do this are professionals at it and there is no shame in having been duped. Contact your financial institutions directly and report to them what happened so they can lock down your accounts and cards.

If you have an elderly relative or friend, please pass this message on and explain these things to them to help us prevent them from becoming a victim.

Sanger Police Department is one of many smaller agencies who utilize the Denton County Sheriff's Office for dispatch services. During this National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we are proud to recognize, honor, and thank the Denton County Communications Unit who serves our community. Sadly, these women and men are not recognized for their service often enough, and we are glad to have this opportunity to do so.

Telecommunicators are the first voice people hear in their most urgent and vulnerable moments. They provide calm in chaos, clarity in confusion, and reassurance when it is needed most. Their ability to listen, assess, act quickly and provide timely and accurate information to first responders on the streets, keeps both our officers and our community safe.
