My grandson-in-law gave me a drone while we were in Florida. I took it out to Makemie Monument Park for a trial flight to see if I could fly the thing. This is my first attempt at making a video with it. It was a little windy, so I kept it below the tree level. I'll try it again on a calm sunny day.

Memorial Service for Frank Young

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, April 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Eastville, VA.

Interment will be private at a small family plot in Jenkins Bridge.

Frank was born Oct 19, 1930 in Sanford, VA. As most of you know, Frank was a mainstay of the Makemie Society for many years. Surveying the boundaries, building the white fence and picnic tables, and whatever else was required to improve the park.

Members of the Makemie Society are encouraged to attend the memorial service.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the reading of transcripts recorded during a heated discussion that took place between Rev. Makemie and Lord Cornbury that have been preserved for posterity.

From 2:00-5:00 on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 22, we'll be hosting a Picnic in the Park to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the organizing of the first 4 Dissenting churches which Makemie would serve upon his arrival on our Shore. There's no charge, but feel free to bring a side dish to pass. There'll be a large tent and plenty of seating, so weather shouldn't interfere. Artifacts from archaeological digs that have been done on the site will be on display, as will a special guest - the Park's namesake himself!

We have noticed that you could only read the inscription on the Makemie statue if the sun was at a certain angle. Mr Dan Brown came to us with a technique for painting the letters. We gave him the go ahead and he painted the inscription on both the statue and the pyramid. He did a beautiful job. If you are in the area, stop by the park and check it out.
