On May 21 the Sanford Fire Department Testing Group conducted the physical agility portion of our current hiring process. The group assists with the hiring process and works diligently in setting up and overseeing the physical agility exam. This year we were extremely fortunate to be able to use the new York County Regional Training Center which provided the space it takes to operate the course. A HUGE thank you to York County Regional Training Center - Maine for allowing us the use of your fantastic facility.

During the week of May 18 several of our firefighters travelled to Rochester, NH to take part in a Trench Rescue Certification course that was organized by Seacoast Chief Fire Officers Mutual Aid District. For four days our members worked extremely hard below ground learning and completing the necessary tasks involved with trench rescues. Expanding our knowledge, skills, and abilities to handle any and all emergencies is what we strive for and work towards each and every day.

The Sanford Technical Rescue Team completed their quarterly training recently which involved a full day of roll-up scenarios around the City of Sanford in order to test and strengthen their abilities and team work. They worked flawlessly performing a tree rescue, a below grade confined space rescue, a back country steep angle rescue and an industrial high angle rescue from a 90' silo. A special thanks goes out to Genest Precast and Polyvantis for your support and the use of your facilities for training. The use of private sites for training helps prepare the team for real emergencies.

During this snowy April day, D Shift took the time to recognize the accomplishments of one of their own during training. Probationary FF Audet was awarded his helmet shield by the members of his shift. The traditional helmet shield is awarded to a Probationary Firefighter when they have completed all mandatory training and objectives during their probationary year. The determination to award the shield is made by each probationary members shift. The department is proud of Probationary FF Audet's hard work, determination, and dedication in meeting his probationary goals over the last year.
