Wednesday December 28th Only! All active military personnel and veterans get into Aloha Safari Park's Christmas Light Show for free! (must present military ID at time of admission!) We are so grateful to have such brave individuals protect and serve our country every day and this is our way of saying thank you! 🙂 We are open tonight from 6pm-9pm and can't wait to see everyone at the zoo!

Not sure if you are aware of this but I "legal" considered local paper is the DAILY RECORD based out of Dunn. Most of the time they dont pay much attention to us out here is the west. In fact in there title section on the front cover they only mention out as far as Anderson Creek.

Right now they are having a BEST OF 2017 contest for Harnett County. The link is below. Take a few minutes and fill out all your favorite places here in the western part of the county.

You will have to write your entries in the space provided because they didnt even include any of the stores or organization out by us.

For me I put places like M&B Auto and the Twisted Grape. I also wrote down places that I may not use but see their names out and about or heard from someone.

It is time for Western Harnett to be heard!!!!

Hello. Me again.

Tomorrow information will be coming home with students interested in trying out for Volleyball (next week), Cheerleading, Boys Soccer and Football (tryouts this week.) Tomorrow afternoon (Monday) our school is offering sports physicals from 5:00 PM - until the doctor sees our last student. The cost is $25 (cash or check) and the form can be printed from our school website main page. Tryouts begin on Wednesday for all fall sports except Volleyball. Volleyball tryouts will be next week but Volleyball will hold workouts / open gym this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Be sure to bookmark our Athletic Page and support our Viking teams. If your child is interested in Cheerleading but is unsure please have them see Ms Proctor in the Main Office or Ms. Clark in Room 614 tomorrow or Tuesday at school. I'm looking forward to great things from our athletes and our performers as we have some very talented students.

Open House is tomorrow night (Wednesday) from 5:00-7:00. Students will report to homeroom nlt than 5:25 and we will rotate through the schedule in 10 minute intervals until 6:30 PM. Students/parents arriving late will join mid-rotation. Parents with more than one student should attend with the youngest and then at 6:30 go to visit the other homeroom teacher(s.) If you have not yet been contacted by the homeroom teacher please arrive at 5:00 or call the school during the day and we will be glad to share that information with you. Bus information will be available in the cafeteria all evening.

Hello.

If this is your first email from me my name is Brian Graham and I am the Principal at Highland Middle School. Next Tuesday at Highland Middle we are hosting our new 8th grade students for an 8th Grader Transition / Orientation Day. Students should pre-register on our website beginning tomorrow at noon. It is open to every registered, rising 8th grade student. Students must be dropped off between 8:45-9:00 and picked up at 12:15. During our 'day' together we will walk students through a normal daily schedule, talk to them about some routines that guide our school, talk about the leadership that we expect them to provide, and the things that they need to 'do' to successfully work, compete and perform at Highland Middle School.

One of the highlights of our day together will be our FREE T-shirt exchange and our 8th Grade Pizza Party lunch in our cafeteria. Students should bring with them a t-shirt from Western Harnett Middle School, Overhills Middle School, or a shirt from the middle school that they attended last year (if it was not Overhills or Western.) I personally will give them a hot off the press, just designed. HMS shirt that I hope they will proudly wear. I will post the tentative schedule for Orientation on the electronic registration form on our school website. Remember students plan on attending need to pre-register on the school website no later than 5PM Monday, August 10th.

In regards to a few other things at our school:

1) THIS Thursday evening (Aug 6th) is the FINAL school time from 6:00-8:00 PM for band students to rent an instrument. Please meet Mr. Newsome in the Band Room.

2) Each Wednesday before school starts we are hosting a Volleyball Open Gym/Clinic from 8:00-10:00 AM for any student wishing to play competitive middle school volleyball.

3) Many parents are having trouble finding the 3" D ring binder. If you can purchase one please do so. If you can't find one our school has ordered several hundred and will have them available for sale at Open House and in our school store when school begins.

4) Teachers will begin calling or emailing students the name(s) of their homeroom and team teachers this Thursday, August 6th and all will be informed by August 14th.

5) Open House is August 19th from 5:00-7:00 PM

Because you will know who your teachers will be prior to Open House, during Open House we can run a normal daily schedule (similar to the way Open House runs at Western Harnett High School and Overhills High School) which means parents and students should plan on arriving at 5PM and staying until 6:30. During Open House you will rotate from class to class so students know where to go and how to get there on the first day of school. During each 10 minute rotation students will hear from each core or elective teacher the expectations for each course. At the 'end' of each period we will ring our bell and give you and your students a few minutes to get to their next class. At 6:30 when we finish you will have time to get bus information in our cafeteria, join our PTO, visit our HMS school store or shoot a half court shot in our gym for some really cool HMS prizes.

Hello.

My name is Brian Graham and if you are getting this message you are either an awesome HMS student, a terrific parent of an HMS student or an amazing staff member at Highland Middle School; home of the Vikings. This email is the first of many and is a 'test message' of sorts as this is my first 2015-2016 email and my first from gmail which is our new Harnett County Schools domain.

I don't have every parent in our system yet but soon will. If you talk with other parents please ask them if they've received emails and/or phone calls from the school. Very rarely will I ever send home a printed letter to each student as I communicate via email, phone, text message and soon text push alerts. When I send email I've send it to myself, cc: my staff and blind cc all others to maintain confidentiality and the privacy of your information.

Assuming you've read this far and the email test is working here are a few things that you need to know:

1) I will send a weekly email (or two or three) one of which will be text from my weekly voicemail phone call
2) I've completed all of the tours that were scheduled but will schedule ONE MORE prior to Open House that I will soon finalize
3) I am also finalizing an 8th Grade Transition Day (on August 11th, not 12th) for our new rising 8th grade students. More details to follow..
4) Open House is Wednesday, August 19th from 5:00-7:00. Parents and students should plan on attending all 2 hours again details to follow..
5) Don't forget Football Camp begins on Monday from 6:00-8:20, registration is $50 and you can register ON SITE.
6) Cheer Camp (another one :-) also begins this Monday, August 3rd from 9:00-11:00, also $50 registration fee.
7) Please remember that AVID requires a written application. Please turn yours in no later than Wednesday, August 6th to be eligible.
8) August 4th-August 14th you will be contacted by your child's homeroom teacher. Please reply to the phone call/email if they leave a message
9) At Open House you will be able to purchase Viking Gear, join our PTO, and do some other pretty cool stuff.
10) Finally, the supply lists are posted to our website.

Note: EVERY STUDENT needs everything on each supply list however the 3" D-Ring Binder tabs, highlighters, pencil pouch t(hat will fit in the binder), colored pencils are vital items as every student at our school will keep a binder this year and the binder / pencil pouch will help store the highlighters and colored pencils needed to take notes using our schoolwide note taking system.

It has been my great pleasure meeting all of you and I look forward to an incredible year together. Please reply to this email if you have questions and feel free to email me anytime there is something that you need. I prefer email to this account (rather than going through the website link) as this account is much easier to reply from and access.
