Hello.
My name is Brian Graham and if you are getting this message you are either an awesome HMS student, a terrific parent of an HMS student or an amazing staff member at Highland Middle School; home of the Vikings. This email is the first of many and is a 'test message' of sorts as this is my first 2015-2016 email and my first from gmail which is our new Harnett County Schools domain.
I don't have every parent in our system yet but soon will. If you talk with other parents please ask them if they've received emails and/or phone calls from the school. Very rarely will I ever send home a printed letter to each student as I communicate via email, phone, text message and soon text push alerts. When I send email I've send it to myself, cc: my staff and blind cc all others to maintain confidentiality and the privacy of your information.
Assuming you've read this far and the email test is working here are a few things that you need to know:
1) I will send a weekly email (or two or three) one of which will be text from my weekly voicemail phone call
2) I've completed all of the tours that were scheduled but will schedule ONE MORE prior to Open House that I will soon finalize
3) I am also finalizing an 8th Grade Transition Day (on August 11th, not 12th) for our new rising 8th grade students. More details to follow..
4) Open House is Wednesday, August 19th from 5:00-7:00. Parents and students should plan on attending all 2 hours again details to follow..
5) Don't forget Football Camp begins on Monday from 6:00-8:20, registration is $50 and you can register ON SITE.
6) Cheer Camp (another one :-) also begins this Monday, August 3rd from 9:00-11:00, also $50 registration fee.
7) Please remember that AVID requires a written application. Please turn yours in no later than Wednesday, August 6th to be eligible.
8) August 4th-August 14th you will be contacted by your child's homeroom teacher. Please reply to the phone call/email if they leave a message
9) At Open House you will be able to purchase Viking Gear, join our PTO, and do some other pretty cool stuff.
10) Finally, the supply lists are posted to our website.
Note: EVERY STUDENT needs everything on each supply list however the 3" D-Ring Binder tabs, highlighters, pencil pouch t(hat will fit in the binder), colored pencils are vital items as every student at our school will keep a binder this year and the binder / pencil pouch will help store the highlighters and colored pencils needed to take notes using our schoolwide note taking system.
It has been my great pleasure meeting all of you and I look forward to an incredible year together. I prefer email to this account (rather than going through the website link) as this account is much easier to reply from and access.
