The Board of Commissioners will hold a Budget Work Session on Friday morning at 8 a.m. at the main Lee County Library, located at 1740 Bragg Street, Sanford, NC 27330.

The Work Session will not be recorded, live-streamed, or on-demand. Please join us in-person if you wish to observe.

New changes to SNAP work rules went into effect on December 1. Some people receiving SNAP food assistance will be affected by new changes to the program's work requirements. Adults ages 18-64 are required to participate in approved work activities for at least 80 hours per month unless they qualify for an exemption. Your county Department of Social Services will screen you for all exemptions during your next recertification.

Need help meeting SNAP work requirements? More Than a Job NC offers free job training, education programs, and work opportunities. Ask your caseworker or visit ncdhhs.gov/morethanajob.

Have questions about new SNAP work requirements? Visit ncdhhs.gov/fns for details. Contact your local county DSS: ncdhhs.gov/dss-directory. Ask your caseworker at your next recertification. Your county DSS will screen you for all exemptions.

The side portion of the Buggy Building parking lot, accessible from Chatham Street, will be closed beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25.

The main Buggy Building parking lot will close following the Sanford Farmers' Market on Saturday and will remain closed through Monday, May 25.

During last nightโ€™s Board of Commissioners meeting, the County Manager presented the Recommended FY 2026โ€“27 Budget, which includes a proposed five cent property tax rate increase to cover rising EMS costs, increased school funding, deferred facility maintenance, and an increased commitment to the Countyโ€™s long term debt plan.

The recommended budget documents are available for review online at LeeCountyNC.gov/RecommendedBudget.

Residents are encouraged to share their feedback at the public hearing on June 1, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the multi-purpose room of the Lee County Main Library (1740 Bragg Street, Sanford, NC 27330).

The Board of Commissioners will additionally be holding a Budget Work Session on June 5, 2026, at 8:00 AM, also in the multi-purpose room of the Lee County Main Library.
