We are under severe drought conditions right now in Lee County, according to the NC climate office. Even some established trees and perennials can struggle through weather like we've been experiencing for the last few weeks. I know it can be hard to justify, but always remember to keep your vegetables and fruit trees watered regularly for good production. At times like this also consider watering young trees and perennials, and even some established plants that are prone to stress.

Happy National Insect Appreciation Day! Check out all of these guys flying around the Rattlesnake Master, Eryngium yuccifolium.

While most folks don't get excited when they see a bunch of wasps and bees flying around their plants, we do! Wasps and flies are important pollinators, and important predators (and parasitoids!). Flowers provide nectar and pollen to insects, and some plant parts provide food for larvae of important pollinators. All of these organisms make our ecosystems work!

Hope to see you there!

I am so proud of our status as a Bee City — and of the work our community is doing to support all of our pollinators.

A morning of education and fun is a sweet reminder of what we can accomplish when we work together. 💛🖤
