***UPDATE*** ARREST MADE

June 11, 2026 – Sanford Police Detectives arrested two individuals related to the early Wednesday morning shooting of a 17-year-old at The Oaks Apartments. Around 5:00PM on Thursday Naquan Tymarion Clegg (19) was arrested at his residence at 424 Brookfield Circle Sanford NC. He was charged with one count of Murder and one count of Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Vehicle. He is being held in Lee County Jail with no bond and has a court appearance scheduled for June 12th. A second suspect, 17 year old (juvenile), surrendered to police around 11:00PM Thursday night. He is also charged with one count of Murder and one count of Discharging a Weapon into an Occupied Vehicle. He was taken to Wake County Juvenile Detention Center and has a scheduled first appearance on June 12th.

June 10, 2026 – Sanford Police are investigating the shooting death of a 17-year-old male Sanford resident. Around 1:30AM Wednesday officers responded to Oak Branch Lane in The Oaks Apartments after receiving reports of a vehicle collision and a person being shot. When officers arrived on scene they discovered several wrecked cars and a 17-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The investigation revealed the vehicle operated by the 17-year-old victim accelerated at a high rate of speed on Oak Branch Ln. and collided with the several unoccupied parked cars, including a Lee County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, after he was shot. The 17-year-old victim was transported away from the scene for medical care but was prouncounced dead by emergency medical personnel while in transit. This is an active investigation and no other information is available for release at this time. The Sanford Police Department and the Sanford Fire Department are conducting a joint investigation into a structure fire that resulted in the loss of life on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

At approximately 2:35 am on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, members of the Fire Department and Police Department responded to 1326 Summerset Place for a reported structure fire.

Upon arrival, the Fire Department began fire suppression. While on scene Fire Department personnel located the deceased inside the residence.

Sanford Police Detectives were called to investigate the death.

The deceased was identified as Marcus Phillip Mason, 59 years old of 1326 Summerset Place.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, let us also reflect on the true meaning of this day and pay tribute to those who gave everything for our freedom.

Further investigation by detectives led to the arrest of Chrisshawn Terrell Alston (34), for the murder of Judy Ann Jones.

Alston was taken before a Lee County magistrate where he was charged with one count of murder. He was placed in the Lee County Jail under no bond with a first appearance court date set for today May 15th 2026 at the Lee County Courthouse.

On May 14th, 2026 at 9:34PM Sanford Police responded to 227 Linden Ave in reference to a subject shot. Upon arrival, officers located Judy Ann Jones (34) inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. She was immediately transported to Central Carolina Hospital for medical treatment where she was pronounced deceased.

Further investigation by detectives led to the arrest of Chrisshawn Terrell Alston (34), for the murder of Judy Ann Jones.

Alston was taken before a Lee County magistrate where he was charged with one count of murder. He was placed in the Lee County Jail under no bond with a first appearance court date set for today May 15th 2026 at the Lee County Courthouse.
