For more than a century fire lookouts have played a vital role in the detection of wildfires. While many of those lookouts have disappeared, some of those that remain offer unique hiking destinations with stunning views and fascinating history. In this one-hour presentation Cheryl Hill will talk about her new book Hiking Oregon’s Fire Lookouts, highlight some of the most rewarding lookout hikes, share stories from her journey to visit every standing lookout in the state, and explain how to rent a lookout. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
