Thank you to our Public Works Department for setting up this sandbag station! If you think you might need sandbags during the expected rain this weekend, stop on by.

With rain expected through the weekend, our Public Works Department has established a self-service sandbag filling station at 9800 S. Highland Drive. The location has sand, empty sandbags and shovels available for residents. Residents are welcome to come by and fill their own sand bags.
It's also recommended to check the storm drains in your neighborhood to make sure there are no blockages which could cause flooding in the event of another heavy rain storm.

This week was the official kickoff of the Sandy Youth Council and Youth Court programs. The evening featured a dinner with students, parents, and leaders from the Sandy City Council and Sandy Police Department, as well as the students swearing in to their roles with Judge Paul Farr.

The Youth Council is a service organization that teaches students how city government works while activating them out in the community.

The Youth Court is a program offered by the Sandy Police Department through which volunteer youth are trained to serve on the peer court to hear select cases and provide remedies that help offenders avoid Juvenile Court.

Thanks to all the families and staff who make these programs possible!

At its August 11 meeting, the City Council voted to advance a General Obligation Bond proposal to buy and renovate the former Crescent View Middle School property in the amount of $30 million.

Sandy residents will vote on this bond proposal in the November 3, 2026 election. Arguments in favor of and opposed to the proposal will be included in the voter information pamphlet mailed to every registered voter in Sandy City.

To register to file an argument, notify the City Recorder's office by email at [email protected] before Friday, August 28, 2026 at 5 p.m. Then, the deadline for filing an argument is Friday, September 4, 2026 at 5 p.m.

What a great day with first responders and community members!

Today was the 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast with the Sandy City Fire Department, and the Soda with Sandy City Police Department event.

Two of our City Council members (Brooke Christensen – Dist. 1 and Alison Stroud – Dist. 2), as well as Mayor Zoltanski had a blast meeting and hearing Sandy City residents share their appreciation for our firefighters and police.

Kids and adults had a great time going down the slide and learning about the tools on the fire truck at our new Firehouse 31. Then, everyone loved getting to know K9 Twitch with his handler Officer Crandall (as well as many others) at Twisted Sugar.

Goooo RSL!

Sandy City Council was delighted to host colleagues from the Wasatch Front Regional Council as well as the Cottonwood Heights and South Jordan city councils at Wednesday’s game. Everyone enjoyed cheering our hometown team as well as sharing strategies for serving our residents better.

Sandy City Council members in attendance were Brooke Christensen (Dist. 1), Alison Stroud (Dist. 2), Kris Nicholl (Dist. 3), and Cyndi Sharkey (At large).

Council member Kris Nicholl (District 3) got an unexpected surprise opportunity this week! During a performance by Halau Ku Pono i Kamalani at the Hale Centre Theatre, she had the chance to pet a live camel.

Wednesday the camel was there representing Otters and Others Zoo and Conservation. Thank you to the performers (as well as to Wednesday, her handler, and Otters and Others) for adding to the varied and vibrant Sandy arts scene.
