What a great day at Kelso Elementary’s SLC Field Day! ☀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Our officers had a blast cheering on students, joining in the fun, and spending time with some amazing kids. Building connections with our community’s youth is one of the best parts of the job, and we’re grateful for opportunities like this to share smiles, laughs, and encouragement.

Thanks to Kelso Elementary for inviting us to be part of such a fantastic day! 🚓💙

☀️ Summer is here, and unfortunately, so is an increase in vehicle break-ins. Many of these crimes happen when valuables are left inside vehicles or visible through windows.

🔒 Help protect yourself:
• Lock your vehicle every night
• Remove valuables when possible
• Keep bags, wallets, electronics, and other items out of sight

A few seconds of prevention can save you from the cost and frustration of becoming a victim.

We had a great time at the Special Olympics event at the Sandy High School track. Attending community events is one of the fun parts of the job and helps us connect in positive ways. Come see us at the Longest Day event in the Deer Meadow neighborhood this Thursday or say hi when you see us walking around the Farmer's market.

We have received many requests for updates on Sergeant Thornton's condition. With his permission, we are able to share the following information:

Sergeant Thornton was shot four times on May 31. He has a long road to recovery but we are all optimistic to his return.

He remains hospitalized, but will soon be transferred to a rehabilitation facility and has begun both physical and occupational therapy. His recovery journey will be long, but he continues to demonstrate the courage and determination that have defined his service to our community.

Like many of you, we are proud of Sergeant Thornton's willingness to move toward danger to protect others. We stand with him throughout his recovery and look forward to the day he rejoins us in uniform.

Those wishing to assist Sergeant Thornton's family during his recovery may make donations at Clackamas County Bank to an account administered by a local charity or through a GoFundMe organized by his brother, Brandon Thornton.

We have been comforted by the outpouring of support for our department, Sergeant Thornton, and the families affected by last Sunday’s tragic events.

Many of you have reached out asking how you can support those impacted. During times like these, many sincere and caring people organize fundraising efforts to help families cope with the financial burdens that often follow a tragedy. Unfortunately, there are also individuals who attempt to take advantage of these situations through fraudulent fundraising efforts.

We are aware of legitimate GoFundMe fundraisers benefiting the families of the deceased that are organized by Becca Zoloznik, Amanda Waranch, Kali Frasier, and Kortnie Smith. Antfarm, the Burns Feed Store, and the D31 Foundation are also accepting donations to benefit those affected.

If you choose to donate through any other fundraising opportunity, please carefully verify the source before contributing. We will share information about efforts benefiting Sergeant Thornton in a different post.

Tomorrow, June 4th at 6:00 PM, we will host a Community Support Gathering in Meinig Park to offer everyone an opportunity to gather together, connect with one another, and learn about resources available for all who were touched and affected by the traumatic event on Sunday. 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨!

The Sandy Police Department would like to thank our community, our friends and families for all the support we have received.

The Sandy community and communities across the state have rallied around the victims, their loved ones, and their friends. “Sandy Strong” has taken on a renewed and deeper meaning for all of us. When tragedy strikes a community, healing begins through the compassion, support, and strength shown by the people around us. Because of this community and the incredible people who call Sandy home, we will all heal together in time.

We also want to thank the entire law enforcement community, fire personnel, dispatchers, and medical providers who responded, provided support during this tragedy and are continuing to support us.

Sergeant Thornton remains in good spirits and is responding well to treatment. The Thornton family is deeply grateful for the support they have received. At this time, the Thornton family is asking for privacy from the media.

The Sandy Police Department has received an overwhelming number of media inquiries and public records requests.

There are currently two separate investigations underway.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is leading the homicide investigation. Media inquiries regarding that investigation should be directed to the Sheriff’s Office.

The officer-involved shooting investigation is being led by the Clackamas County Interagency Major Crimes Team in collaboration with the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office. Media inquiries regarding that investigation should be directed to the District Attorney’s Office.

The Sandy Police Department and City Sandy will not be commenting further on either investigation at this time.

𝗕𝗿𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗠𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿

OREGON CITY, Or. -- Bryan Andrew Moore, 38, was arraigned Monday afternoon in Clackamas County Circuit Court on murder charges and other crimes related to an incident in Sandy, Oregon on May 31, 2026.

Moore, 38, was arraigned on three counts of Murder in the First Degree in the deaths Jenna Mary Overson, 37, Mary Beth Overson, 70, and Kobyn McClure, 16, and Attempted Aggravated Murder involving Sandy Police Department Sergeant Garrett Thornton.

Moore also is charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and two counts of Kidnapping in the First Degree.

Moore is being held without bail at the Clackamas County jail. His next court appearance is at 2 p.m. June 8.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the criminal investigation in this case.

During a confrontation with Moore, law enforcement officers exchanged gunfire with him. The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Clackamas Interagency Major Crimes Team, a multi-jurisdictional task force that investigates major, critical, and officer-involved incidents.

UPDATE 2: The suspect is in custody and the shelter in place has been lifted. There is no ongoing threat to the community.

UPDATE 1: Sandy Police can confirm the suspect is confined to a residence. We ask that people continue to avoid the area. Residents in the area should continue to shelter in place.

Sandy Police and other agencies are on scene of a domestic disturbance and reported shooting in the area of 39500 Evans Street. The area is not safe and we ask that everyone stay out of the area. Residents in the area should lock their doors and remain inside. More information will follow.
