September is Emergency Preparedness Month. Throughout the month, the Town of Sandwich will be sharing simple emergency preparedness tips and resources to help residents and families prepare for severe weather, emergencies, and other unexpected events.

We’re kicking off the month with an important first step: Be Informed. 📱

One of the simplest things you can do to prepare is to make sure you know how you’ll receive emergency information when you need it most.

AUGUST 23

Noise complaint in the vicinity of East Sandwich Beach. All parties were advised of Bylaws.

Not so happy campers…loud music was disturbing the peace at a camp ground and the caller was unable to rouse security.

And a return visit to that East Sandwich Beach residence. The music was off when officers arrived. The group was advised to now keep their voices down.

A call was received from a short term rental owner that the occupants of the house next door had set up a volleyball net on his beach and refused to move it. The caller was advised the incident was civil in nature because there was a property line dispute.

AUGUST 24

Officers were dispatched to the station to assist a woman who wanted her boyfriend to vacate her vehicle. That man was cooperative and eventually each went their separate ways.

Crisis intervention was initiated for an individual threatening self-harm. That subject was brought to the hospital.

A Sandwich man is being summonsed to court after an altercation on the road. That man stated a driver had brake checked him, causing him and two females in his vehicle to spill their drinks. The accused stopped his vehicle at an intersection and approached the other driver and opted to use more than his words to express his displeasure. The encounter was caught on dash cam. He is being charged with 265/13 Assault and Battery.

A broken window brought officers to the Oak Ridge School. Staff felt the damage was caused by a rock and did not want further investigation into the incident.

AUGUST 25

Officers responded to a residence to speak to a man who wanted to discuss some concerns. When they arrived, the man refused to speak to them.

The scammers are busy this week. From bitcoin to identity theft, be vigilant.

AUGUST 26

Officers are investigating a case of a car being keyed at a local supermarket.

Call received about kids jumping off Scorton Creek bridge. The caller expressed concern because it was low tide. When an officer arrived, no one was jumping off the bridge.

AUGUST 27

An individual came into the station to explore the option of a civil stand by while she took possession of a vehicle.

AUGUST 28

A motorcyclist was reported by a woman for allegedly engaging in road rage. Officers located the motorcyclist, who admitted to a verbal altercation but denied striking or making contact with her vehicle. The officers stated that they had not mentioned any allegation that he hit her car. The motorcyclist said the woman had threatened to tell police that he had hit her vehicle.

A caller reported that an individual entered her yard and asked her to turn down the music. The subject was advised of the applicable bylaws.

A call for a breaking and entering ended with the calling party being brought to the hospital for crisis intervention.

AUGUST 29

A woman came into the station to report receiving creepy voice mails on her cell phone. Like Scream movie level creepy. The incident is being investigated.

A caller requested officers increase patrols through his neighborhood because juveniles have been operating motorbikes erratically on public roadways.

Officials are investigating the death of a man at the East end of the Cape Cod Canal

At approximately 9am, the Sandwich Police Department dispatch received a call from a concerned fisherman. He reported an unattended bicycle near the jetty at the East end of the Cape Cod Canal. Further down the jetty, he observed an unattended tackle box.

An officer was dispatched, and checked the area. Near the end of the Jetty he located a male party that was deep within the rocks. It was determined that the individual was deceased. Based on his location and his positioning in the rocks, his recovery was extremely difficult.

Members of the Sandwich Fire Department as well as the Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team were able to recover the man’s body from the location. The Sandwich Harbormasters Office, the Massachusetts Environmental Police, The US Coast Guard, and the US Army Corp of Engineers assisted with recovery efforts.

This incident is under investigation by the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Sandwich Police Department. The identity of the individual is not being released at this time. Foul play is not suspected.

🎒🚸 Back to School in Sandwich: Let’s Slow Down & Drive Safe!

Sandwich Public Schools are back in session tomorrow (Wednesday, September 1), which means more students, families, pedestrians, cyclists, school buses, and traffic on our roads.

As we head into a new school year, we’re asking everyone to slow down, stay alert, and give yourself a little extra time when traveling through school zones and around town.

A few important reminders:
🚗 Slow down in school zones
🚶 Watch for pedestrians and bicyclists
🚌 Follow school bus laws and never pass a stopped bus with flashing red lights
🅿️ Avoid double parking and unsafe drop-offs
🛑 Follow crossing guards and school patrol directions
👀 Stay alert for children

Want to help spread the message? The Town’s back-to-school “Slow Down in Our Town” Sign Pilot is underway! Residents can come to the Town Manager's Office at the Municipal Office Building at 100 Rt 6A during regular business hours to pick up a free yard sign.

🚗 SLOW DOWN - IN OUR TOWN: YARD SIGN PILOT PROGRAM

As students, families, pedestrians and cyclists return to our roads for the new school year, we’re asking everyone to help us keep Sandwich streets safe. 💙

The Town of Sandwich is launching a residential sign pilot program as part of our Slow Down - In Our Town public safety initiative. A limited number of campaign signs will be available for residents to display on private property for 30 days.

📅 Display period: August 31–September 30, 2026
📍 Pick-up: Town Manager's Office, Sandwich Municipal Office Building, 100 Route 6A
🕣 Pick-up hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
🏡 One sign per residence/property, while supplies last

Signs must be placed on private property with the property owner's permission and may not be altered or placed on Town/public property, utility poles, sidewalks or within the public right-of-way.

At the end of the 30-day period, signs and metal stakes should be returned to the Sandwich Municipal Office Building so they can be reused for future public safety campaigns.

🚗💨 SLOW DOWN - IN OUR TOWN. SPEEDING HAS CONSEQUENCES.

Speeding isn't just about getting a ticket. The faster you drive, the less time you have to react, the longer it takes to stop, and the more serious a crash can be.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 11,288 people were killed in speeding-related crashes in 2024. Speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities nationwide.

And here in Sandwich, speed enforcement has been increasing.

📈 Sandwich Police Department speeding stops:
• 2023: 1,167
• 2024: 1,845
• 2025: 2,495

Since receiving the Massachusetts Municipal Road Safety Grant in 2024, the Sandwich Police Department has conducted increased speed enforcement during peak summer months to educate drivers and enforce speed limits across town.

🚨 More enforcement doesn't mean we're looking to catch drivers — it means we're working to prevent crashes and keep everyone on our roads safer.

Whether you're driving through a neighborhood, heading to the beach, or traveling through town, give yourself more time and slow down.

AUGUST 9

Officers performed a wellness check on juveniles after a report the custodial parent might be out drinking. Officers made contact with both the parent and children. All was well and the dad had been at his job that just happens to be in an establishment that services alcohol.

Officers were dispatched to the Boardwalk after receiving a call for an altercation between a bicyclist and the occupants of a vehicle. Officers located a car that fit the description and initiated a traffic stop. After an investigation, David Shah of Warwick RI was arrested for the following:

AUGUST 10

Officers are investigating vandalism at the Sandwich Hollows Golf Course where an “artist” painted a member on the 9th hole green. And by member we are not talking about a person who pays dues to the club.

Officers initiated a wellness check on an individual at the request of a friend. That man was found to be intoxicated and was brought to the hospital for evaluation.

AUGUST 11

Several Busch Light cans wrapped in blue tape were found tucked into a homeowner’s bushes, along with notes warning them to stop tossing cans in the yard and claiming they’d been caught on camera. The homeowners said they don’t drink b**r and have no idea who’s behind the Busch Bush operation. Police are still trying to figure out wassssupppp.

A motorist reported seeing kids on e-bikes, with no lights no helmets and it was after dark. Officers were unable to locate.

Loud music was reported coming from a home on 6A. The owners were advised and they turned it down. It was almost midnight

AUGUST 12

A caller reported kids on e-bikes cutting off vehicles in a grocery store parking lot. Officers spoke to the juvenile riders.

Officers initiated crisis intervention for a man at the request of family. That subject was located and taken to the hospital.

Officers responded to a residence after receiving a report that the home was in a state that was not safe or sanitary for the elderly resident. That individual refused any treatment but did state they needed some help. That subject was referred to Officer Bondarek.

Fed Ex Truck vs Port Cochere. Officers took a report and the homeowner will contact Fed Ex.

AUGUST 13

Officers investigated a report of an unattended child 6 or 7 years of age, at Scorton Creek Bridge. The child was with her Mom.

A very large check sent by a business to a vendor was intercepted and cashed by another party. The incident is under investigation.

Officers were called to a residence for crisis intervention. The individual had taken an over the counter supplement and was experiencing side effects. They were brought to the hospital.

AUGUST 14

A caller reported two people coming out of the restrooms at the pickle ball courts. Officers confirmed they were campers who were staying at the Oak Crest Cove field for the BMX competition.

Officers initiated a wellness check on an individual who had threated self-harm after being terminated from his job. That subject was taken to the hospital.

A visitor reported receiving disturbing texts from an unknown number that seemed to know her whereabouts. She blocked the number and, thankfully, received no further messages.

AUGUST 15

Officers responded to a report of an impaired person sleeping in their vehicle. They found a man who had driven up from Virginia and explained he was simply catching a cat nap.
A caller reported a dog locked in a vehicle in apparent distress. Officers found the vehicle and the dog was quite happy because the AC was cranking.

Officers initiated a wellness check on a man who was threatening self-harm. That subject was brought to the hospital.

A caller from Town Neck reported fireworks being set off in the area. Officers responded and searched around, but apparently missed the grand finale. No fireworks were located

Dogs barking. Owners agreed to take them in for the night.

A West Yarmouth man to be charged after fleeing from a traffic stop. Officers pursued but called it off due to the suspect’s speed.

40-Year-Old Sandwich Man Arrested on Child Po*******hy Charges

On August 18, 2026, Sandwich Police Detectives, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Barnstable Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence located in Sandwich, MA. As a result of the search warrant, 40-year-old Robert Sullivan of Sandwich was arrested on multiple Child Po*******hy charges. This search warrant and subsequent arrest was the result of a CyberTip received by the Massachusetts State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that was assigned to a task force officer from the Sandwich Police Department’s Detective Division. The CyberTip alleged that an online account, later identified to be Sullivan’s, possessed and disseminated child po*******hy.

Sullivan was arrested and then booked at the Sandwich Police Department on the following charges:
1) Possession of Child Po*******hy
2) Dissemination of Child Po*******hy

Sullivan was arraigned at Barnstable District Court on Wednesday August 19th, 2026, and ordered held on $25,000 cash bail. The investigation remains ongoing at this time. This case is being prosecuted by the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office.

Sandwich Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Sunday evening.

At approximately 8:50 PM, Sandwich Police responded to the area of 87 Farmersville Road for a report of a head on two-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Officers found a 2011 Toyota Prius with a sole male operator and 2017 Toyota Rav-4 with three occupants. Both vehicles had sustained significant damage.

The investigation revealed that the crash occurred while the Prius was traveling west on Farmersville Road and the Rav-4 was traveling east on Farmersville Road. The operator of the Prius was in critical condition and was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Sandwich Fire Department. He would later succumb to his injuries. The occupants of the Rav-4 were all transported to Cape Cod Hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Sandwich Police were assisted by members of the Barnstable Police Department, Barnstable Country Sheriff’s Department, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police.
