What we have here is the City of Sandusky 1923 Ahrens Fox engine. Let’s dig a little deeper.

Howard Schneider a retired captain from the City of Torrence Fire Department and his brother Paul acquired the engine 30 years ago. The brothers have spent the last 10 years restoring it, driving all over the country for the parts that had previously been stripped from it. They tried to restore it to as close to when Sandusky received it.

The 1923 Ahrens Fox engine took “best of show” in the Great Falls Montana car show, featuring 737 vehicles. The Schneider brothers are very proud of the engine, calling it “the Pride of their collection”. The prior owners Ken Soderbeck and Andy Swift played a big roll also in making this restoration possible.

The Sandusky Fire Department is very impressed with the efforts and dedication that went into this restoration. Good work fellas!

Testing is open on a rolling basis. To be considered, you'll need to do two things: apply through the city at https://www.cityofsandusky.com/apply and take the entry-level test through the National Testing Network at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com.

Once you pass the written test, you'll move through a panel interview, our physical agility test, and a background check, physical, and psych exam.

Welcome Aboard!

Many people — family members, loved ones and fellow first responders — attended the swearing-in ceremony for Sandusky's newest firefighter: Ricardo "Ricky" Trevino. It occurred on Monday at City Hall.
