Good day folks!! Today marks the "30 days away" date before we make history at the Juneteenth Celebrate Freedom event on the Jackson St. Jackson Street Pier. Get ready for a memorable intergenerational time with good food, good music, good fellowship, and all the "feels" as we celebrate one of the oldest recognized Black American holidays since 1866!!

Juneteenth is a historical tipping point for the African American community and the nation, recognizing the monumental moment that ended slavery.

On June 19, 1865, Union Major-General Gordon Granger issued General Order #3 in Galveston announcing freedom from slavery in Texas, one of the last places to receive the news.

The date was dubbed “Juneteenth,” and since 2021, it is observed annually as a federal holiday to celebrate the Emancipation Proclamation’s enforcement and the liberation of the remainder of the enslaved both in Texas and throughout the newly reformed United States.
