The Post recognized the accomplishments of the SHS Welding class of 2026 in designing and building the 3 veteran memorial benches for the Sandpoint Longbridge at our Memorial Day luncheon. Rob Lantto accepted the certificate for the class and explained the work performed by the students in their design and construction process. As you can see in the other photo, the benches are already popular amongst the vets. They will definitely be a welcomed addition to the Longbridge walking path.

ATTENTION SANDPOINT: Monday is Memorial Day and a day we remember and honor veterans who have paid and who were willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today as Americans. You can pay your respect to those veterans and become involved by attending a Memorial Ceremony this Monday May 25 at 9 a.m. at the Pinecrest cemetery or at 11 a.m. at the Lakeview cemetery. Following the Lakeview ceremony, the Sandpoint VFW will be hosting a veterans’ honor luncheon at 12:00. This event is open to all veterans and the public.
- Remember, Freedom is not free.

Our commander Lt Colonel Ken Hunt has retired and the new post commander is AJ Cruz. Ken has done so much for the post over several years of leadership. Ken was in Special Forces USA and will be missed. AJ is a Vietnam era USA veteran who earned the Purple Heart among other valor medals. They’re both honorable men and absolutely stand up Army veterans. Many of the posts Marines, Sailors and Airmen are scrambling to keep up. Oooorraaahhh!

Please remember to thank them for their respective post service service!

Well deserved well done Ken and AJ!

The Veterans of Foreign Wars to Install and Dedicate Memorial Benches on Sandpoint Long Bridge Sandpoint.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2453 is proud to announce the installation and dedication of veteran memorial benches on the Sandpoint Long Bridge, honoring the service and sacrifice of local veterans and offering a place of reflection for the community.
A team from VFW Post 2453 will install the benches on Monday, May 18, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m. The installation marks the culmination of a community-driven effort to recognize and commemorate the contributions of veterans in the Sandpoint area.
The official dedication ceremony will take place on Monday, May 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. on the Long Bridge. This brief ceremony will formally present the benches as a gift to the community of Sandpoint.
Following the dedication, a luncheon will be held at VFW Post 2453, located at 1325 Pine Street, honoring the Sandpoint High School Welding Class of 2026, whose craftsmanship and efforts made the construction of these benches possible.
The public is warmly invited to attend both the dedication ceremony and the luncheon.
These benches stand as a lasting tribute to the men and women who have served our nation and as a symbol of the strong partnership between local veterans and the Sandpoint community.
