We are slightly delayed with the numbers this month, it has been a busy month. For those who came to the Chicken BBQ we want to thank you, for those who didn't we hope to see you next year.

Below are the numbers for the month of July and the year so far. We also wanted to highlight some calls that were noteworthy during July:

Busy day for Sandown Fire-Rescue:

On Sunday August 9, Sandown Fire Rescue and its duty crew of two responded to a medical emergency in the morning, a building fire in the afternoon, and a propane emergency a few hours later.

Earlier this afternoon on Odell Rd. Sandown Fire Rescue along with Fremont Fire Department, Chester Fire Department, and Danville Fire Department were dispatched to a possible building fire. On arrival it was determined to be an overloaded outlet with. No extension. Sandown Ladder 3, Tank1, Engine 2, and Forestry 1 responded. The outlet was isolated, there was no extension and mutual aid was returned.

Later at 5:05 in the evening, which happened to be shift change Sandown Fire-Rescue received a phone call at the station reporting a propane leak. The caller was told to hang up and call 9-1-1. Sandown Ladder 3 and Ambulance 1 initially responded. Upon arrival a 500 gallon above ground propane tank was determined to be 60% full and leaking from the bottom of the tank. Captain Goldman took command and requested a retone for manpower, and a Chester tanker. FF Dave Savastano was assigned operations, Lt. Steve Winter was assigned to pump operations, and managed the ladder pump along with the Tanker. Once it was determined this may be extended operations Fremont, Hampstead, and Auburn were requested with tankers while Danville was assigned to establish water supply at the Exeter River. Plaistow Fire was requested to cover the Sandown Fire Station.

Crews flowed over 30,000 gallons of water while awaiting the propane company. Once they arrived on scene the hazard was mitigated and the leak was stopped. Sandown Fire Chief Mike Devine stated “in all of my years I have never seen a propane tank leaking from the bottom like that.” Sandown Ladder 3, Tank1, Engine2, and Ambulance 1 responded to this scene along with our mutual aid partners. We are grateful for their support and are thankful the emergency was quickly abated.

We’d also like to thank our Dispatchers at Rockingham County Sheriffs Office they did a great job requesting our additional resources.
