Town of Sandisfield Announces Transition in Fire Department Leadership

August 6, 2026 — Effective August 7, 2026, Michael Grillo will no longer serve as Fire Chief for the Sandisfield Fire Department.

Deputy Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Chris Colonair will serve as Acting Fire Chief during this transition. Deputy Chief Colonair has extensive experience in departmental operations, emergency management, and municipal coordination, and will provide stable leadership while the Town considers next steps for the Fire Chief position.

The Sandisfield Fire Department remains fully operational, and residents should expect no interruption to fire, EMS, or emergency response services. The Town has full confidence in the department’s officers, firefighters, EMTs, and other personnel and appreciates their continued professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving the Sandisfield community.

The Town recognizes the important role the Fire/EMS Department plays in the community and is grateful to the professionals who work to keep our residents safe. The Town also extends its appreciation to the Sandisfield community for its continued support, trust, and confidence in the Fire Department and its members.

The Town will provide additional information regarding the Fire Chief position as decisions are made.

**UPDATE**
Route 5 has been re-opened to one-lane traffic and power has been restored.

Please be advised that Route 57 is currently closed in the area of the Post Office, 83 Sandisfield Road due to emergency utility work following damage to a utility pole during scheduled electrical work.

This incident has also caused a power outage in the area. Current estimates from utility crews anticipate power restoration around 1:00 PM. That timeline may change depending on repair conditions and the arrival of replacement equipment.

Motorists should expect detours and avoid the area if possible. Traffic is being redirected via Silverbrook Road and Town Hill Road.

Please use caution, plan for delays, and avoid downed utility lines or work areas.
