đźš’ THANK YOU, KNOX COUNTY REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION! đźš’
The members of the Sandborn Fire Department would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Knox County Redevelopment Commission for their incredible investment in the safety of our firefighters by funding new turnout gear.
For decades, many of our firefighters answered emergency calls wearing bunker gear that was more than 30 years old. While they never hesitated to serve, that gear no longer met current NFPA or State of Indiana safety standards and simply could not provide the level of protection today’s firefighters deserve.
For many rural volunteer departments, replacing turnout gear is one of the biggest financial challenges we face. A complete set of modern bunker gear—including the coat, pants, helmet, boots, gloves, hood, and other required safety equipment—can cost $6,000–$8,000 per firefighter. That is simply beyond the reach of many small-town budgets.
This generous investment means our firefighters—both seasoned members and those just beginning their service—will be properly equipped to answer every call with the protection they need.
Turnout gear is more than clothing. It is the barrier between a firefighter and extreme heat, flames, toxic gases, and other life-threatening hazards. It helps ensure that when our firefighters leave to protect our community, they have the best chance of returning safely to the families who are waiting for them at home.
The Knox County Redevelopment Commission didn’t just purchase equipment—they invested in the people who willingly step forward, day and night, to serve others.
Your generosity will make a lasting impact on our department and on the safety of the citizens we proudly serve.
From all of us at the Sandborn Fire Department, thank you for believing in us, supporting us, and helping keep our firefighters safe. We are truly grateful. ❤️🚒
