Knox County EMA will conduct the monthly test of the outdoor warning sirens this morning at 11:30 AM.
This is a routine test only. No action is needed.
As a reminder, outdoor warning sirens are intended to alert people who are outdoors to go inside and seek additional information. They are not designed to be heard reliably inside homes, businesses, vehicles, or other buildings.
Knox County EMA may activate outdoor warning sirens for the following conditions:
• A Tornado Warning issued for any part of Knox County
• Radar-indicated tornadic debris
• A reliable report confirming a funnel cloud or tornado
• A Severe Thunderstorm Warning with a “Destructive” damage threat tag, meaning damaging winds of at least 80 mph and/or hail of 2.75 inches, approximately baseball size
Outdoor warning sirens are a supplemental warning method and should not be used as your primary or only source of emergency information. Please make sure you have multiple ways to receive alerts, including Wireless Emergency Alerts, NOAA Weather Radio, local media, and trusted weather or emergency notification apps.
Thank you for your assistance and awareness during today’s test.
