Yesterday, almost 90 (YES, NINETY) Sandite Special Olympians and partners from Garfield, Limestone, Northwoods and CBMS competed in the Special Olympics Unified Co****le Area event in Owasso.

What is the purpose of partnering our athletes and their peers? To promote social inclusion, friendship, and understanding, creating a culture of acceptance where athletes showcase their abilities, build confidence, and form meaningful relationships.

We are incredibly proud of these students and their accomplishments! 💛🖤

‼families who care for someone with disabilities‼
On April 12th at 3:00 PM, we’re hosting a Life Planning Workshop for Individuals with Disabilities. This workshop will feature Monica L. Maple from Maple Law, who will walk through important topics like special needs trusts, guardianships, and powers of attorney—things that can help families plan wisely for the future and protect the people they love. If you’re a parent, caregiver, family member, or know someone who could benefit from this conversation, we would love for you to attend. To RSVP or get more information, call (918) 771-3696.

If you’re attending Sixth Grade Center Parent/Teacher Conferences this evening, be sure to stop by the 1st STEP cart! You can purchase bracelets made by students, water bottles, and lanyards, with all proceeds supporting the 1st STEP program.

1st STEP is the middle school portion of Sand Springs Public Schools’ Sandite Transition Education Program, which helps students with disabilities build independence, life skills, and career readiness. Through individualized instruction, hands-on learning, and real-world experiences, students gain the skills they need to prepare for their next steps.

National School Psychologist Week is the perfect time to celebrate our outstanding Sand Springs Public Schools School Psychologists! This year’s theme “Follow Your Path” recognizes the ways that school psychologists take an active role in helping everyone in their communities determine paths to learning, growth, and overall well-being that meet their unique needs. Through their deep expertise and training in consultation, collaboration, and evidence-based practices, school psychologists empower others to set their destination and find a route that fits their needs, all while sharing tools to help them thrive along the way!

Thank you for all you do for our Sandite learners!

No Cell from Bell to Bell 📱

Oklahoma lawmakers recently passed legislation banning student use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices during the school day, beginning in the 2025-26 school year. In compliance with this new law, our Board of Education has adopted a local policy outlining how the mandate will be implemented. You can view the policy here: https://5il.co/3l4dl

We recognize this will be a significant change and appreciate the flexibility and patience of everyone involved.

Here are some quick facts about how this will impact the school year:
➡️ The law requires that students do not use personal electronic devices from “bell to bell.” This includes the length of the school day.
➡️ The law applies to personal cell phones and other personal electronic devices, including – but not limited to – smart watches, smart glasses, laptops, tablets and smart headphones.
➡️ The law does not apply to school-issued or school-approved devices.
➡️ Students who violate board policy may face disciplinary consequences.

There are exceptions to the law, including the use of a device:
➡️ During an emergency, such as a natural disaster, medical emergency, or lockdown.
➡️ When a student needs the device for a health need, like checking blood sugar.
➡️ If the device is listed as necessary in a student’s IEP or 504 plan.

More information can be found in the full policy. Thank you for working with us to create the best possible learning environment for students. We appreciate your support.
