TRAINING- The department was lucky enough to receive an acquired structure for training purposes. Hose advancement, Search, overhaul, and vertical ventilation were topics covered.

Also, new smoothbore nozzles were placed in service tonight. The Elkhart Brass 7/8” smoothbores will flow 160 Gallons of water per minute!

Job Opportunity Announcement: The department is seeking motivated individuals to join our expanding team. Residents of Northern Nelson Township (north of 19 Mile Road), Ensley Township, southern Pierson Township (south of Cannonsville Road and South of W Wood Lake Rd), or the Village of Sand Lake who are interested in joining our department are encouraged to apply. Comprehensive training is provided, with fire academy typically commencing in the fall and EMS training in the spring. Application packets can be obtained from the Nelson Township offices or requested via email at [email protected].

TRAINING 05/11/2026- 4 members of Sand Lake Fire joined Cedar Springs and area departments with an acquired structure training. These opportunities are rare, especially in a commercial building. Members trained on hose deployment, search and ground ladder work. A huge thank you goes out to everyone that made this happen!

Very sad news coming out of Walker. Our condolences go out to all those affected by this tragic loss. Rusty made a positive change for the fire service in his City, West Michigan and surrounding areas. Thoughts and Prayers being sent.

Walker Fire Chief Russell “Rusty” Shoultz died suddenly after experiencing a medical emergency, the city announced Friday.

COME TRAIN WITH US

We are hosting 2 days of engine company evolutions with an emphasis on commercial fire response. It is the same class both days. We have 3-4 spots open per day.

The training will be conducted at an old commercial building that is soon scheduled to be demolished.

03/29/2026 STRUCTURE FIRE: Around 3pm your Sand Lake Firefighters were called into Cedar Springs for automatic aid on a brush fire turned into Structure Fire. Units provided manpower and water. Units operated on scene for a little over an hour.
Sand Lake units on scene: Engine 6, Engine 3, Brush 9, Brush 15, Tender 14.
