Did you know there are more than 1,000 acres of vineyards across Niagara County?

Some of the grapes from those acres can be found at A Gust of Sun Winery, which recently celebrated an impressive milestone — 15 years in business!

Founded by Shane Gustafson, A Gust of Sun Winery is proud to offer small-batch, limited-release wines made with grapes sourced from local growers, showcasing the quality of Niagara County’s wine industry.

Yesterday, members of our team, along with Niagara County Legislator Dave Godfrey, stopped by for a tour and to recognize A Gust of Sun Winery on 15 years of doing business in Niagara County.

Congratulations to Shane and her business on this great achievement, and here’s to many more years of success!

The staff at the Niagara County Center for Economic Development extends its heartfelt condolences to Bill’s family, friends, colleagues, and to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bill served as Secretary of the Niagara County IDA Board and was deeply committed to the mission of advancing economic development, creating jobs, and attracting investment throughout our community. His dedication to public service and to the continued growth and prosperity of Niagara County made a meaningful difference.

We are grateful for his service, leadership, and the lasting impact he had on those around him. Bill will be remembered with great respect and affection, and he will be deeply missed.

Statement on Passing of former Legislature Chairman Bill Ross

Mike Hill, Chairman, Niagara County Legislature
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Ross — the man many of us simply called ‘Coach.’ Bill was a true gentleman, a dedicated public servant, and someone who cared deeply about Niagara County and its people.

“Bill was the longest-serving Chairman in the history of the Niagara County Legislature, a testament to the respect and confidence he earned from his colleagues and the community. His contributions extended well beyond the Legislature, including his work as a trustee of SUNY Niagara and as a member of the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency.

“It was my pleasure to serve with Bill on the Legislature. I valued his wisdom, his friendship, and his commitment to making Niagara County a better place. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“On behalf of the Niagara County Legislature, I extend my deepest condolences to Bill’s family, friends, and loved ones.”

Rich Andres, Niagara County Legislator
“Today is a sad day in Niagara County with the passing of Bill Ross, long-time Chairman of the Legislator, an educator and coach, and truly an elder statesman in our community.

“I always admired Bill’s commitment to helping others, but what I will remember most was his ability to bring people together. Bill understood that you don’t have to agree with someone on everything to work together to accomplish something good for the community. As Chairman, he always looked for common ground and treated people with respect, regardless of their political party or point of view. That ability to build consensus was one of his greatest strengths and a big reason why he earned the respect of so many people.

“As someone who spent his life as an educator, coach and public servant, Bill was always teaching — whether he was in a classroom, on a football field or in the Legislature. You can tell that was his true passion.

“I am grateful to have known Bill and to have called him a colleague. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who knew and loved him. Niagara County has lost a great man.”

Yesterday, our team joined Legislators Chris McKimmie, Jeff Elder, Sam Farruggia and Rick Abbott to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Niagara Falls!

Making the occasion even more memorable was a special appearance by Kiefer Sutherland, best known for his iconic roles in 24, The Lost Boys and Designated Survivor. It was a great way to celebrate another exciting milestone in downtown Niagara Falls!
