It has come to our attention that an old scam is still going around. A resident of Sanborn was contacted about her grandson being in an accident and it is trouble. The "officials" requested $10,000 cash for bond through a bondsman. These scammers are now doing some research and finding names and locations to bolster their stories to make them more believable. If you receive one of these calls, confirm the information through family or police.

Thankfully, this was recognized by a local bank and the transaction was not sent out. These scammers are getting more sophisticated and harder to recognize.

Please remember to verify if confronted, never send cash through mail or messenger service, and payment with gift cards is favored by scammers because as soon as the money on the card is sent (often overseas), it is impossible to get back.

If you receive a similar call or have questions about legitimacy, please notify the Police Department.
