πŸ•’ Best Viewing Time:
About 30–60 minutes after sunset
Look toward the western to southwestern horizon.
πŸ” Mercury and Venus will glow low near the horizon, while Jupiter and Saturn will shine brighter higher up. Uranus and Neptune may require binoculars or a small telescope.

Analysis
This month is a mixed bag. Crime in town increased compared to the prior month, but August had an extremely low crime rate compared to the prior year. However, the crime rate was still lower than the same month from last year (September 2015 was at 286). Thus, this is the 9th month where the crime this year is lower than last year’s crime spike.

The crime increase comes from two specific crimes:
Burglary from Vehicle (An increase of 14 over August)
Shoplifting (An increase of 9 over August)

All the other crimes stayed pretty consistent, with 85% of the crime in town being property crimes.

Going forward, the last three months of 2015 where exceptionally high, with crime numbers in the low 300s. If the drop in crime continues, we should see a 20% to 30% drop from over last year.

Finally, I will start posting information on specific streets in town that have the most of the crime activity in the coming months. I will be covering the top 50 city blocks in San Pedro, which makes up 40% of the crime in town.

Burglary (Attempted) – 1
Total Property Crime – 186
Total Crime – 238

Analysis
Seven of the last 8 months has seen a drop in crime over the same time as last year. Additionally, there was a significant drop in August. This past month had an 8% drop from July (261 crimes), and a 22% drop from August of last year (302 crimes). This drop is surprising considering warmer temperatures, more free time among younger people and easy access to alcohol tends to cause increases.

The drop in crime was across the board, in both violent crime and property crime. The following had the largest drops from last year

Aggravated Assault – Drop of 13 from last year
Theft (Bicycle) – Drop of 8 from last year
Robbery – Drop of 8 from last year
Burglary – Drop of 6 from last year
Theft from Vehicle (Petty) – Drop of 6 from last year

Thank you for being vigilant and not giving up. We are not the β€œghetto by the sea”, we are a good town filled with good people. This information bears this out.
