Statement from Ahmad J. Anderson, President, West County Democratic Club
The West County Democratic Club unequivocally condemns President Trump’s recent posting that invokes language historically used to dehumanize Black people. The comparison of Black people to apes is rooted in racist, false, and long-discredited myths that have been used to justify violence, exclusion, and oppression against Black communities. This rhetoric is not accidental, harmless, or abstract — it echoes a legacy of harm that this nation has a responsibility to reject.
Anti-Blackness corrodes both critical thinking and basic human decency. When leaders amplify dehumanizing narratives, they undermine the values of dignity, truth, and equality that must anchor our democracy. Words from those in positions of power carry consequences, and history is clear about where this kind of language leads.
We ask our Democratic leadership — at the local, state, and national levels — to step in , step up and speak out forcefully and consistently against racist language, imagery, or tropes whenever and wherever they appear. Leadership must demonstrate moral courage by naming harmful rhetoric for what it is and refusing to normalize dehumanizing discourse.
We affirm — without qualification — the humanity, brilliance, and dignity of people of African descent. We celebrate our intellect, our history, our culture, and our profound contributions to the social, political, and moral fabric of this country. Our humanity is not up for debate.
The West County Democratic Club calls on all leaders, institutions, and community members to reject racism in all its forms, to speak with precise clarity, and to act with unwavering courage. Silence in moments like this is complicity. We will continue to stand for truth, justice, and the full dignity of every person.
