Join us for “Conversations with Art” with Helane Rheingold. This engaging roundtable invites fresh interpretations, interactions, and a new appreciation for art. Helane has worked as a docent at the Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase, NY and has over 33 years of experience with art and art history.

In the spirit of cultural exchange and appreciation of diversity, educational development, and community service, the Chinese Club of San Marino holds monthly lectures and workshops. The Chinese Club of San Marino will be meeting on Thursday, September 10 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the Barth Community Room. This program is open to adults interested in Chinese language and culture. Registration is not required.

Do you sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch, or embroider? Join us for a fiber arts meet up! The first session of A Stitch in Time Fiber Arts Club is on Wednesday, September 16 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM in the Barth Community Room. Come and work on your projects with other crafters in the community. All skill levels are welcome. Registration is not required.

The Library will be closed Monday, September 7 in observation of Labor Day. Normal hours will resume the following day.

The Huntington Nurses Health Screening will be Wednesday, September 9 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Barth Community Room. The Huntington Nurses offer free blood pressure and glucose screenings. Blood pressure and glucose evaluations can lead to prevention and early detection of “silent killer” diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes. Please plan to fast for at least 2 hours prior to having glucose checked. Registration is not required.

Join us for the brand new Spice Club! Explore new food histories, cuisines, and cultures through spices! September’s featured spice is sumac, and November’s featured spice is ancho chile.

Pick up a kit at the Reference Desk starting on the 1st of the month that includes a sample of the featured spice, background about the spice’s origin, and recipes from our cookbook collection. Spice Club kits are free, but supplies are limited. Please, only one kit per household. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Registration is required. A library card hits all the right notes! Check out a classic story or hit shuffle and try something new. Find harmony at our book club, crafting classes, and author talks. A headphone kind of day? Find your focus in the Lifelong Learning Center or vibe out in a cozy corner. No matter what rhythm you find yourself in, there’s a seat in the front row at the library for you. This September, "B sharp", and sign up for a library card!

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Crowell Public Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the valuable resources available with a library card. To celebrate, we'll be giving away a free mini tote when signing up for a new library card! Existing library card holders will get a free gift when they use their card. Giveaways are available while supplies last. Come to the Library to start your application. Call the Library at (626) 300-0777 with any questions.

Sensory play allows children to connect ideas with concrete experiences, stimulating the brain, and developing fine and gross motor skills. Baby Sensory Gym is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and is for ages 4 months-2-years-old. Registration is not required, but space is limited.
