UPDATE 7:30 AM: We are seeing areas of localized flooding near Mill Street and IH 35 and Aquarena and Charles Austin. If you’re out driving, it’s a good idea to slow down, keep your headlights on, and avoid roads where water is covering the surface.

The US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas Texas has issued a Flash Flood Warning for our area until 7:15 a.m. Periods of heavy rain may lead to some localized flooding, especially in low‑lying spots and areas that typically collect water. If you’re out driving, it’s a good idea to slow down, keep your headlights on, and avoid roads where water is covering the surface.

Update 6:55 p.m.: IH 35 has reopened and crews are working to restore power to all customers.

IH 35 near Aquarena Springs is currently closed in both directions at Exit 207 after an oversized load struck power lines in the area.

The incident has also caused a power outage affecting nearby customers. According to the SMTX Utilities outage map, power restoration is currently estimated for 6:05 p.m.

Motorists should avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Know Your Resources: Need a helping hand? The City of San Marcos offers resources that can help residents maintain their homes and get back on their feet when life takes an unexpected turn.

Through the Home Equipment Lending Program (HELP), eligible residents can borrow tools and equipment for projects like fence staining, power washing, tree trimming, and curb painting. The Helping Hands Warehouse provides household items, furniture, and appliances to qualifying residents experiencing hardship or transitioning into stable housing.

Registration for Rio Vista Park Entry Passes is now open.

To improve safety and manage capacity during the busy summer season, City of San Marcos is implementing a managed access entry fee for out-of-area visitors at Rio Vista Park on weekends and holidays from June 20 through September 7. Local Area Participants ages 18+ can enter for free with a Rio Vista Park Entry Pass.

A Local Area Participant is anyone who:

• Lives inside the incorporated San Marcos city limits; or
• Has a 78666 zip code; or
• Lives within the SMCISD boundary

Register for your free Rio Vista Park Entry Pass at sanmarcostx.gov/rvparkpass. Please allow up to five days for requests to be processed.
