When it comes to preventing child abuse, listening to kids is key. Regular conversations create safe spaces where children feel empowered to speak up about anything that’s on their minds.

Meet a few of our beloved San Marcos Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Sewing Guild members! The Guild has been an ongoing support for our Remme Rainbow Room and has supplied dozens of handmade blankets to children in crisis over the years.

Jeanie Lewis (pictured) said, "the mission of our SMUUF Sewing Guild is to create these small quilts to donate to several organizations in our community that serve children in need or aging adults. We have been donating the the Child Protective Board for several years now though our Sewing Guild and through our annual Donate-the-Plate program."

Thank you SMUUF Sewing Guild for your generous donation of time and talent!

The Hays County Child Protective Board proudly provided $18,650 to 94 students for the upcoming school year, these funds provided assistance with clothing and school supplies for children in our community—ensuring they start the school year with confidence, comfort, and the tools they need to succeed.

From backpacks and notebooks to shoes and jackets, these essentials help meet the special needs of children and caregivers—especially during times of transition and uncertainty. Our mission is to connect the citizens of Hays County, the Commissioners Court, and Child Protective Services to enhance services for children and families. Through emergency support, advocacy, and education, we work every day to ensure that no child is left behind.

🙏 Thank you to our donors, volunteers, and community partners for making this possible.

On Thursday, August 7, the "Eyes on Me" Advanced Barber College (242 N. LBJ in San Marcos) conducted a day of free haircuts for all children in CPS care.

A huge THANK YOU to Rudy Ibarra (owner), Josue "Paya" Rodriguez (manager) for making this happen. Big thanks also to all of the college students who participated (Xavier "X", Jordan, Eric, Anthony and so many others)!

We are so excited to announce this year's recipient of the Anna Ve Farr - Heroes in Education Award: Mr. Michael Moore!

Mr. Moore is an Art Teacher at Katherine Anne Porter School in Wimberley, TX. He was nominated by his Superintendent, Mariah Ingram. Mrs. Ingram said, "he is excellent example of compassion incarnate. His art room is a safe haven for students who struggle." She went on to say, "he supports all his students...he finds their strength and helps them to understand and process their feelings through art. He advocates for our students and makes sure they are heard."

The Awards Committee, Board Chair - Dixie Camp, and Board Member - Courtney Poole were present for Mr. Moore's award presentation. Mrs. Ingram held an assembly and invited the entire student body to celebrate Mr. Moore. The students cheered for him and had wonderfully heartfelt things to say about Mr. Moore, a true Hero In Education!
