The 2026 Texas Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday runs from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, through midnight on Monday, April 27. Texans can purchase qualifying disaster preparation items tax-free in-store, online, or by telephone, with no limits on the quantity of items.
Key Tax-Free Items (Under Specific Prices)
• Less than $3,000: Portable generators.
• Less than $300: Emergency ladders and hurricane shutters.
• Less than $75: Batteries, flashlights, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, axes, charcoal, conventional coolers, fuel containers, and mobile phone chargers.
Important Details
• Online Sales: Items bought online are tax-free if purchased during the weekend; however, shipping and delivery fees are included in the total price, which may disqualify an item if it pushes it over the price limit.
• What is NOT Included: The exemption does not apply to cleaning supplies, toilet paper, masks, vehicle/boat batteries, or chainsaws.
• Purpose: The holiday is designed to help Texans prepare for hurricane season and other severe weather.
