On June 14, we celebrate Flag Day and the adoption of the Stars and Stripes in 1777.

As we honor our nation's flag, we also recognize the public servants, utility workers, engineers, operators, and customer service professionals who work every day to provide the essential services that help our communities thrive.

Thank you to all who serve our country and our communities.

First a hawk. Now bees.

Our recirculating rain fountain continues to attract wildlife of all sizes. While a hawk recently used the fountain as a perch, this time it's serving as a refreshing pit stop for some of our community's hardest workers—bees.

Providing access to water helps support pollinators that are essential to healthy ecosystems and vibrant landscapes.

Nature has a way of reminding us that water is important for everyone.

"Keeping an Eye on What You Can't See"

Most of our wastewater infrastructure is out of sight—but it's never out of mind.

This remotely operated camera helps Vallecitos inspect sewer lines from the inside, recording video that is cataloged by location and retained for future reference. Comparing inspection videos over time allows crews to monitor changes, plan maintenance, and address problems before they become emergencies.

It's one more way we're investing in reliable wastewater service for our customers.

Engineers are professional problem solvers.

Every day, engineers at Vallecitos Water District tackle challenges both big and small—from planning new pipelines and facilities to improving system reliability and ensuring safe, dependable water service for our community.

Their work often happens behind the scenes, but the solutions they create help keep water flowing when you need it most.

Interested in a career where curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking come together to make a difference? Engineering may be the perfect fit.

Starting June 14, a major regional water pipeline will be temporarily shut down for inspection and assessment. The work is expected to last about 15 days.

Vallecitos Water District has alternative connections and operational flexibility that should allow us to meet customer demands throughout the maintenance period without issue.

While no service impacts are anticipated, we will continue monitoring regional system conditions. If unexpected circumstances arise elsewhere in the system, targeted conservation requests may be necessary.

For now, customers can help by continuing to use water efficiently every day.

🦅🌿 Water attracts wildlife, and San Marcos has plenty of it. Included in this post is a watercolor painting of "Discovery Lake" by local artist Nadine Fiscus.

The nearby Cerro de las Posas ("Hills of the Pools") where Discovery Lake is located, contains numerous lakes, ponds, and seasonal pools that provide valuable habitat for birds, mammals, amphibians, and insects.

These water features help make our region a unique place where people and nature thrive together.

🌊 World Oceans Day – June 8

The ocean plays an important role in our community's water future.

Vallecitos Water District benefits from seawater desalination through the Claude 'Bud' Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant, which helps diversify Southern California's water supplies and improve reliability during droughts.

At the same time, wastewater collected from our community is treated before being discharged through the Encina Wastewater Authority, helping protect our coastal environment and ocean health.

This World Oceans Day, we're reminded that protecting water quality and using water efficiently helps safeguard one of our planet's most valuable resources—the ocean.
