We’re excited to team up with our community partners this Saturday, September 19, at the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office Dunk-a-Deputy Community Fundraiser—benefiting Special Olympics Southern California! 💦

Bring your friends and family for a day packed with fun: explore local vendor booths, enter raffles, meet inspiring Special Olympics athletes, and take your shot at dunking a deputy—all for a great cause. Every dollar raised goes directly to supporting these incredible athletes and their programs.

Bring the family for a morning of fun, hands-on activities and helpful resources that can help you be ready when emergencies happen.

Kids can get creative at the Home Depot craft table, experience the always-popular earthquake simulator and pick up a free kids’ go-bag while supplies last. You can also meet local emergency preparedness organizations and learn simple ways to prepare your family and home.

Happy National Literacy Day! 📚🌱

Celebrate National Literacy Day by feeding your mind and your garden! Whether you are a seasoned gardener with a passion for native plants or simply curious about the natural world around you, come visit our native seed library at the District's headquarters at 201 Vallecitos de Oro in San Marcos.

Located at Vallecitos' Sustainable Demonstration Garden in San Marcos, visitors can take native seeds from the library as well as free gardening books from the District's "Little Free Library." 📖 Stop by our office during business hours to find books on a variety of garden topics. The District stocks this lending library throughout the year with various garden books to help you adopt a water-wise garden lifestyle. 💧

Used in large commercial and industrial systems, this equipment locks out dangerous water from our drinking supply while making sure fire sprinklers get maximum water pressure during an emergency. 🏢🔒

Water 101 – Putting “Eyes” on our Pipes

We work hard to keep our almost 300 miles of underground sewer pipes flowing. 💧🤖 And at VWD, we don’t just wait for a line issue to happen—we actively prevent it by constantly putting "eyes" on our pipes! But when an underground problem does arise, we need a way to see exactly what’s going on so we can move fast to fix it!

To do both, our teams use advanced robotic pipe crawlers. Think of them as mini, waterproof rovers equipped with high-definition, 360-degree cameras. They put “eyes” directly inside our underground pipelines so we can work smarter:

🛡️ Proactive Prevention: Our crews regularly inspect pipes to detect tiny cracks, mineral buildup, and early signs of wear before they turn into major disruptions.

🎯 Efficient Repairs: When a problem occurs, these cameras show us the exact nature and location of the issue. This allows us to respond efficiently and effectively, choosing the proper tools and methods for a precise fix.

💰 Saving Resources: By avoiding guesswork and minimizing unnecessary digging, we save time, prevent water loss, and keep operations cost-effective.

Whether we’re maintaining the system or fixing an urgent issue, this high-tech teamwork ensures reliable water and wastewater services for our community every single day. And we've got to admit, driving a camera robot through pipes with a game controller can be pretty fun too!
