We are thrilled to announce that Blu has officially found his permanent partner: Cpl. Jorge Velasco! While Chief Carmichael did an amazing job stepping in, Blu is ready to settle into this new chapter of his mission.
Service and compassion clearly run in the family! Cpl. Jorge Velasco is the brother of Cpl. David Velasco, whom many of you know as Mando’s handler. We’re excited to have both brothers serving our campus with their K9 partners.
We are so happy to have this duo officially on the move. Keep an eye out for them near the Quad or the LBJ Student Center, and remember: if you’re feeling blue, Blu and Cpl. Jorge are here for you!

Happy from Pawfficer Blu! 🐾 Blu spent his morning reporting for duty at LBJ, trading pets for puppy-dog eyes and wagging tails. There’s nothing he loves more than a shift spent visiting with our favorite Bobcats!

Big changes are coming to our therapy K9 program! 🐾

We are excited to formally announce that Blu (formerly Baloo) has officially found a new partner in Chief Carmichael. While our teams may look a little different, our mission remains the same: providing comfort, support, and a friendly wagging tail to the Texas State University community.

Chief Carmichael and Blu have already been out and about on campus today making friends! Swipe to see some highlights from their first official outings.

Huge Congratulations to Pawfficer Baloo and Pawfficer Mando!

It’s official! We are so incredibly proud to see these two officially sworn in. The energy they bring to campus is unmatched, and we’ve already seen firsthand the comfort and joy they provide to students and staff alike.

We can’t wait to see the continued positive impact Baloo and Mando will have on our community as they settle into their official roles. Whether it's a stressful finals week or just a regular Tuesday, knowing these two are on the beat makes campus feel a little more like home.
