🌱 We’ve officially broken ground on Welcome Home Village, a first-of-its-kind supportive housing community in San Luis Obispo! 🏡

This innovative project will deliver 54 units of interim and permanent supportive housing using sustainable, 3D-printed construction from Azure Printed Homes turning recycled plastic into housing and hope.♻️

With support from DignityMoves, Good Samaritan Services, and the City of San Luis Obispo Government this project pairs urgency with innovation to support individuals experiencing homelessness along the Bob Jones Trail and beyond.

🎉 Thank you to the over 100 community members joined us to plant roots (literally 🌿), sign a welcome poster for the community's future residents, and celebrate the start of a bold, compassionate vision.

Together, we’re making room for everyone to thrive.

🏡 "I just needed a safe place to live."

After living and working in Big Sur for nearly two decades, Rori’s life changed when he was diagnosed with leukemia. He had to leave his job, rely on his savings, and move into a trailer closer to medical care centers while undergoing treatment. Eventually, he was able to move into an affordable housing community.

“It’s such an amazing place, and it’s helped so much in the healing process.”

Now over a year into his new home in San Luis Obispo County, Rory has found not just housing, but community. He and his neighbors cook for each other, help bringing groceries in, share fruits and vegetables from the community garden, and look out for one another. “We just became family automatically.”

Rori’s advice for others? “My advice would be just keep applying. Even if you get a place somewhere else, you just want to stay on that list.”

💙 This is why affordable housing matters and fosters healing, belonging, and community.

🏘️ In the past 10 years, more than 1,300 affordable housing units have been added across San Luis Obispo County. That’s enough to house approximately 3,000 people.

That’s 3,000 neighbors who now have a safe and stable place to call home. 💙

During Affordable Housing Month, we’re celebrating the progress made and recognizing there’s still more work ahead to meet our community’s housing needs.

🏡 More than 5,600 people in San Luis Obispo County rely on rental assistance to stay housed.

👥 That’s 200 out of every 10,000 residents in our community.

Rental assistance programs like Housing Choice Vouchers and nonprofit-run housing communities help stabilize families, seniors, and individuals with low incomes. Our neighbors should not need to choose between housing and other basic needs. Rental assistance allows our neighbors to stay in their communities while paying for life-saving medications, nutritious food, and needed school supplies.
