SLO Summer Clean-Up Week is June 22–26! and San Luis Garbage are making it easier to clean out your home or space this summer.

✅️Single-family homes can place up to 6 extra trash bags for FREE on your regular collection day
✅️Schedule a FREE bulky item pickup for oversized items like furniture and extra pickups available at 50% off. (One free item for single-family homes and up to four for multi-family complexes)
📱Account holders must call San Luis Garbage at 805-543-0875 by June 19 to schedule bulky item pickups

☣️Remember, no hazardous waste! Instead, drop it off safely at the household hazardous waste facility at Cold Canyon Landfill.

♻️Before tossing it:
Clean Up Week is a disposal event, and all items placed out for collection are taken directly to the landfill — they are not sorted or diverted for reuse. If you have items in good, usable condition, please consider donating or selling them before setting them out for disposal. You can find donation and reuse options at slocity.org/recycle

Please do not place items on the curb unless they are scheduled for collection.

👉️For more information, visit slocity.org/recycle or sanluisgarbage.com

♻️ Before you toss it, consider where it could go next. This move‑out season, consider repairing, reusing, recycling, or re‑homing the items you no longer need.

✅ Donate usable clothing, furniture, and household goods
✅ Repair items that still have life left in them
✅ Recycle materials that can't be reused
✅ Save bulky items for pickup if needed

Clean-Up Week (June 22–26) is a great opportunity to clear out larger items. Single-family homes can set out 6 extra bags and schedule 1 free bulky item pickup. Multi-family residents can schedule up to 4 free bulky item pickups.

📞 Call 805-543-0875 at least one week in advance to reserve a pickup.
Need help finding donation locations or recycling options? Visit slocity.org/recycle for local resources and guidance.

💚 Every item donated, reused, or recycled helps reduce waste and supports a more sustainable SLO.

🌎 Happy Earth Day, SLO! 🌱 This Earth Day, is partnering with , , and to raise awareness about FREE mattress recycling.

📍Drop off at: Cold Canyon Landfill, 2268 Carpenter Canyon Rd.

Did you know:
🛏️ Residents can recycle up to 3 mattresses per day for free (a mattress + box spring = one unit)
♻️ Up to 80% of a mattress can be recycled into new products like carpet padding, insulation, and steel
🚫 Mattresses take up significant landfill space and can take decades to break down, releasing harmful pollutants
🌍 Recycling helps conserve resources, reduce greenhouse gases, and prevent illegal dumping

♻️ Unfortunately, we still see mattresses illegally dumped—even though they can be recycled for free. Let’s do better for our community and our planet, choose to recycle right! 💚

🎉 New Year, New Sustainable Habits ♻️
As we head into the new year, small changes can make a big impact. One easy habit to start now: bring your own reusable bags and containers when you shop and skip additional paper or produce bags altogether.

🛍️ Starting January 1, 2026, California will no longer allow plastic carryout bags at most grocery stores, retail stores with a pharmacy, convenience stores, food marts, and liquor stores. Instead, these stores may only provide recycled paper carryout bags for a minimum charge of ten cents ($0.10) per bag.

🌎 Why It Matters
Reducing single-use items helps cut greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing, transportation, and disposal—and supports our community-wide goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.

🚫 Quick Reminder
Compostable or biodegradable produce bags are not accepted in the City of SLO’s organics collection and must go in the trash. When possible, choose loose produce or reuse a washable produce bag.

Every reusable choice helps move toward a more sustainable future.
