🚆More rail service is officially here!🚆

Beginning May 4th, the Pacific Surfliner now offers a third daily roundtrip serving SLO County, giving residents and visitors more flexible, car-free travel options along the Central Coast.

SLOCOG Board Members, City of Grover Beach Mayor Kassi Dee, and City of San Luis Obispo Mayor Erica A. Stewart, local representatives, and SLOCOG Staff were on hand to welcome the Inaugural Pacific Surfliner train into San Luis Obispo Station on May 4th, 2026, celebrating this exciting milestone for regional mobility and passenger rail...

The County of San Luis Obispo has expanded passenger rail service with the launch of a third daily Pacific Surfliner roundtrip train, improving connectivity between the Central Coast and Southern California. Launched May 4, 2026, the new daily roundtrip increases rail service to three trains serving San Luis Obispo County, providing more flexible travel options for commuters, students, and visitors.

The 12-month pilot service expansion, led by the Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN) Rail Corridor Agency in partnership with the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments and Ventura County Transportation Commission, represents a continued investment in passenger rail and a key step forward in improving alternative mobility options.

The added service improves schedule availability throughout the day, including peak travel periods, giving riders greater flexibility when commuting or planning trips between San Luis Obispo County and destinations such as Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Los Angeles. The new southbound train departs the City of SLO at 12:12 p.m. and runs all the way to San Diego. The Pacific Surfliner continues to offer amenities including comfortable seating, onboard Wi-Fi, and scenic coastal views, making it an attractive alternative to driving or flying.

🪏👷🏼‍♂️🚧 Shovels in the ground, partners at the podium, and a major step forward for safety, mobility, and connectivity along Highway 101 in SLO County.🪏👷🏼‍♀️🚧

👏Thank you to our partners and stakeholders who attended the groundbreaking. We appreciate the time, partnership, and support in helping mark this milestone for the region. The Five Cities Project Groundbreaking was a strong reflection of the collaboration behind this project and the shared commitment to improving safety, mobility, and connectivity along the Highway 101 Corridor.👏

This past Tuesday, April 28th, regional and state leaders marked the groundbreaking of the Five Cities Multimodal Transportation Network Enhancement Project (Five Cities Project), a major transportation investment aimed at improving safety, reducing congestion, and enhancing mobility along the U.S. 101 corridor in south San Luis Obispo County.

Developed through a strong regional partnership, the Five Cities Project is being implemented by Caltrans, sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments (SLOCOG), and supported by the City of Pismo Beach. The Project was predominantly funded through a grant from the Trade Corridor Enhancement Program (TCEP), which is funded by SB 1 gas tax revenue and aims to support infrastructure improvements on federally designated Trade Corridors of National and Regional Significance.

The Five Cities Project is part of a broader ‘bundle’ of coordinated transportation investments that include the just-completed Avila Beach Drive Roundabout, the Bob Jones “City to Sea” Trail extension, and the Shell Beach Road Shared Use Path. Construction is currently underway, with initial work focused on Price Street from the downtown area to Mattie Road in Pismo Beach. Construction is scheduled to be completed by December 2028.
