A BIG thank you and shout out to all the schools that hosted a Safe Drives Save Lives banner during the 2025-2026 school year. You are an integral part of this campaign, and without your support we could not have carried this important traffic safety message across San Luis Obispo County, from San Miguel in the north to Nipomo in the south.

Thank you again to this year’s participating schools:

Atascadero Middle School
Bishop's Peak Elementary School
Dana Elementary
Glen Speck Elementary School
Harloe Elementary School
Lillian Larsen Elementary School
Oceano Elementary School
Paso Robles High School

As summer begins and families spend more time traveling, walking, and biking, remember to slow down, stay alert, and drive distraction-free. Safe Drives Save Lives! 🚲🚗💕

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

🍎SUN Bucks help families with school-aged children buy groceries during the summer months. If your kids qualify for free or reduced-price school meals and/or currently receive benefits such as CalFresh, CalWORKS and/or Medi-Cal, you’ll automatically receive SUN Bucks in the mail.

🏠 Eligible families get SUN Bucks on an EBT card in the mail — $120 for each eligible child to spend at grocery stores, farmers markets or other stores that accept CalFresh.

☀️ Children who get SUN Bucks can still participate in other summer meal programs.

📣 Children who are not automatically eligible for SUN Bucks must apply by August 31, 2026. Check in with your school to apply!

🌎 SUN Bucks does not affect immigration status.

Have you heard of the Air Quality Index (AQI)? 😎 It's a health scale showing how clean or polluted outdoor air is. The poorer the air quality, the higher the AQI value.

Why does this matter?

Poor air quality can affect our health ➡️ especially children, older adults, pregnant people and those with existing heart and lung conditions.

🟩 When the AQI is in the green or ”good” range (0 to 50), air quality is considered satisfactory with little to no risk.

🟨 Yellow levels are "fair" with little to no risk (51 to 100).

🟧 Orange is the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” range (101 to 150) when certain groups are more likely to feel effects.

🟥 Red (151 to 200) is "unhealthy" and risky for everyone's health.

Remember: checking the AQI can help you make informed decisions about outdoor activities, especially during summer when dust, smoke, and other pollutants can affect air quality.

Traveling to a World Cup game, concert, or large event in California? Plan ahead—protect yourself in those big crowds!

Stay up to date on flu, COVID‑19, RSV, and especially MMR (measles) vaccines before travel or attending big events—measles is extremely contagious and lingers in the air.

Large events bring people close together—vaccines are your best protection and help keep outbreaks away.

Schedule your immunizations right away and pack quality masks (N95/KN95) for indoor spaces and transit.

Stay travel-smart—let’s cheer safely! 🎉
