Our thoughts and prayers go out to one of our fallen brethren

A 27-year-old firefighter was killed and at least 10 others were injured after a massive fire and explosion ripped through a Maine lumber mill.

Officials described the scene as “very chaotic,” with multiple buildings engulfed and fire trucks destroyed. The fire reportedly spread to a nearby dust silo, which exploded.

Andrew Cross, 27, with the Morrill Fire Department, was reportedly honorably transferred Saturday morning from the local medical examiner's office to a funeral home.

In the wake of the recent wildfire in Española, we’ve seen something powerful — a community rallying behind its first responders, firefighters, and emergency personnel.

The support, prayers, and encouragement have meant more than words can express.
But support alone doesn’t stop the next fire.

Now is the time to answer the call.
Fire departments across the county are in need of dedicated volunteers — ordinary people willing to do extraordinary things for their community. No experience? No problem. Training is provided at no cost, giving you the skills and knowledge needed to serve safely and confidently.

At Ohkay Owingeh Fire Rescue and Rio Arriba County FIRE, we are actively accepting new volunteers.
If you’ve ever thought about serving your community, protecting your neighbors, and being part of something bigger than yourself — this is your opportunity.

Join us at our monthly volunteer meeting, held the first Wednesday of every month, and see what it means to make a difference when your community needs you most.

🔥 The call will come.
Will you be ready to answer it?
